A Stay at Tropical Paradise Resort in Caye Caulker and Belize’s Best Fried “Fry Chicken” Confirmed

So…last weekend I motored over to Caye Caulker, Belize with the Kelly McGuire group.  Those guys were headed back on this big boat at the end of the dock…

IMG_8382I had booked a room at the Tropical Paradise Resort that IS the end of Caye Caulker’s Front Street.   Lazy Lizard Bar & the Split is at one end of Front street.  You can go no farther on this small island…

And some of the best swimming on Caye Caulker…

and if you walk in the other direction for about 10-15 minutes, you’ll hit the Paradise.  Good sized restaurant and “Cascade Lounge”…very Vegas…and then the hotel.

Right next to possibly one of the prettiest places to be buried in the world, The Old Caye Caulker Graveyard.  And the quietest neighbors you could possibly have at your hotel.

I checked into my room. GREAT value and right on the beach.  Here’s a quick look around.

How did they know that I love pink!

For the price, this place is good!  Refridge, AC, TV, clean…a tiny front porch and you are ON the beach.

Very nice staff.  Plenty of towels (scratchy but who cares!  You are on vacation!)…I had a good stay.  And headed out to look around a bit and secure a reservation for the ONE REASON I WAS IN CAYE CAULKER.  To eat at the new-ish Italian place, run by REAL Italians, who make real fresh Italian pasta and ONLY open in the evening.  I can’t wait…I can’t wait…I can’t wait.

I walked down to MY hot donut place, Ice N Beans.  (It was my second visit there and I JUST realized that the name is a play on the classic Belizean dish “Rice and Beans”.  I’m not so bright…)

The donuts are just the best.  (I wrote ALL about those fried little cinnamon sugary gems…)  And did you notice the new addition to the refrigerator door?  LOVE THIS PLACE!

And followed by the world’s most delicious lasagne?  Can’t wait.

Really a beautiful day in Caye Caulker.

How cool.  I very much want to try the “minimum effort, maximum fun” tour.

And my restaurant.   Pasta Per Caso.  CLOSED FRIDAYS!  For the Jam Session at the Barrier Reef Sports Bar…sigh…

I guess if you can’t beat ’em, join ’em.

I should have known.  If you need to find a white person, over 35 in Caye Caulker on a Friday afternoon, the Sport’s Bar Jam Session is your spot.

There was a BIG crowd and my friend John Kennedy sang a lovely Elvis song to his bride to be.

I can’t lie…I was very disappointed by “the Italian situation” but I knew just the place to drown my sorrows.  Syd’s on the Middle Street.  It was Fried Chicken Friday.  And they have the best Fry Chicken in Belize.  I’ve tried many legs and thighs to confirm this.

$9bzd.  HUGE heap of homemade mashed potatoes.  Delicious.

The joint was filled with fried chicken eaters.

The next morning, I got an email about the Harley Rally in Belize City.  And there was a gorgeous sunrise.

To the water taxi!
