Dia De San Pedro Festival Goes Into Full Swing Tonight…As Do Belize’s Two Oldest Lobsterfests
Long before Lobster Festival in San Pedro (started in June 2007), there was Dia De San Pedro. The week before June 29th is a combination of culture, religion and fun celebrating the patron saint of our town, St. Peter.
St Peter crash course: he was one of the 12 apostles, the RC Church considers him the first pope (from 30AD to about 65AD), he is the patron saint of fisherman, bakers, net makers, bridge builders and more.
The name Peter is also Pedro and Pierre and is derived from petra meaning rock.
Sorry…I love trivia.
This year the Town Council has done a REALLY good job of announcing the events particularly through their facebook page. Here is the full schedule of events for the week…from historical lectures to a fishing rodeo.
A fishermens’ breakfast. A art exhibition – Check out Bob’s blog on the Art & Photo Exhibition and a gorgeous picture of Wilema from Island Academy. Lecture on the Caste Wars (I wish I attended that…it’s something that really brought many of the San Pedrano families to the caye and something I know next to nothing about.) All interesting stuff…
The front street is aflutter with red, green and white flags to celebrate.
This weekend is the carnival, the mechanical rides, the fireworks and the big fishing rodeo. The rides earlier this week…
And the very cool Fisherman’s Rodeo…this looks like fun. Serious prizes and a serious DJ. Black Chiney is huge around here…
Though I have one question…what is Stag Beer? SO…it looks like a very full and BUSY WEEKEND.
BECAUSE also starting tonight are Belize’s two oldest Lobster Festivals. Placencia’s 16th Annual Lobsterfest which I’m attending for the first time thanks to Tropic Air
Food, music, art…exciting. Here is just a list of the food booths. Check out their Facebook page for TONS of information.
And then the 20th Annual Caye Caulker Lobsterfest kicks off tonight too with the Miss Lobsterfest Pageant.
Very cute logo. I’m heading over there Sunday. Check out what went down at Caye Caulker LobsterFest in 2012. Very fun times. And all sorts of events…this color party should be very interesting…
Even more so than usual, there is a TON going on in Belize this weekend.
