Kelly McGuire is Back On Ambergris Caye – First Show for A Packed Palapa Bar

Texas singer/song writer Kelly McGuire is back in San Pedro for his annual Birthday Bash.  Kelly’s albums “Boat in Belize” & “King of the Island” and many lyrical references to spots around San Pedro make him popular but it’s his super friendly, fun personality…the way he learns everyone’s names and his easy going story telling about his time here that make him beloved.

Yesterday he did his first show (really a last minute booking with his friends Scott and Jodie of Palapa Bar) and filled the place.

And for a small concert and sing-a-long, I can think of few better places.

I chatted with him for a few minutes before the show.  He’s switched up his venues a bit this year and remains committed to keep the shows open (not selling passes that might make his shows less accessible to his local fans.)  He is also working on his next album.  “80% there” he says.  If there is a theme, Kelly told me, it’s autobiographical.   And based on the songs that he played during yesterday’s show…I’m hearing that Kelly is in love.

Here’s one that he played for the very first time live.

The release date is planned for April 1st.

Here are pictures from yesterday:

Lots of good eats before the show.  The bartenders and the kitchen were working double time.

I conveniently located some friends in the “front row” and got a great seat.
