Gorgeous Day, Best Ceviche in Town And A Busy Weekend Ahead

The weather has been beautiful since my return – hot for sure but that is very typical for May in Belize.   The trees are flowering…

The sargasso has been coming in…for sure…but hotels and the town council are working to clean it up.  And don’t like the seaweed?  Just look a few feet past it.  Still gorgeous out there.

I stopped into Lily’s Restaurant to confirm the best classic ceviche in town.  Confirmed.  The conch is just so fresh…and delicious.

$23bzd and it’s enough for two…

And the view isn’t bad either.

I stopped by Banyan Bay on the way home…their garden always looks amazing. And they are clearing the lot they own to the north.  Rumors abound that they have been sold…but who knows…

Gorgeous pink frangiapani…

And the two story octagon shaped building that was just north of here…has now been leveled.  Circular staircase lies in front…

The beach that hasn’t been cleaned…

And the view of the lot from the street – over the wall.  All the smaller plants have been cleared.  IMG_0478

On to the weekend – there is quite a bit going on across the country.  In the south, the amazing Belize Chocolate Festival.  Check out my posts from last year below.  FUN…and such a magical part of the country.

Here in San Pedro – it’s the 11th Annual Lagoon-Eco Challenge.  The brutal 2 day 42 mile kayak race around the island that ends Sunday late morning in Central Park.  Here’s a look at last year’s finish.   And the article from the San Pedro Sun about this year’s race.

There is a party in Central Park to celebrate and…Estel’s Dine by the Sea is a HOT ticket Sunday morning.  Please save me a seat!  If memory serves me correctly (and it rarely does), the first guys come in around noon.  Please correct me if I am wrong.

Also…Saturday night is a HUGE EVENT.  The Garifuna Collective – a group that can bring me to tears within a few minutes and have me busting with pride to live in Belize – is performing in San Pedro.  Here is the first teary time I saw them on Ambergris Caye.

They are playing at 7pm at the Old Football Field aka Saca Chispas aka Honorable Louis “Cuz” Sylvestre Sporting Arena.   $5bzd entry.  And I believe Rompe Raja band will play first…so be ready to wait a bit.

But it will be WELL worth it.  Here’s Andy Palacio’s Watina.  It’s just gorgeous.
