My Week on Ambergris Caye, Belize – Izzy’s Shakes, A New Wine Bar and a Bit More
This week has been a sluggish one for me…with a head cold and grey weather…I stayed in quite a bit. That should all change this weekend with the Lobster Festival Block party…
Here are some random photos from my week in San Pedro…
And the San Pedro Lobster Festival sign going up by Izzy’s Smoothies – this is the north most corner of Middle Street.
Where I stopped later in the week for a delicious green juice…kale, ginger, pineapple, kiwi and about 5 other things.
Izzy’s even got PEACHES!
While waiting for my blend, I met a couple building a home and a business up north…just north of Palapa Bar on the road. A wine bar and event space called Stella’s Smile. Driving by you can see the large palapa going up…
I walked past Boogie’s Belly and they were doing BOIL UP! In my mind this classic Southern Belize dish must be said loudly with the emphasis firmly on the second syllable.
It’s really a giant soup of starches…plantains, cassava, potatoes and then probably pig tails…
You can watch Chef Sean Kuylen make it in this Flavors of Belize video.
And all week…the weather has just been grey.
Last Saturday…
Monday morning…
Wednesday…brighter but….grey.
Osprey giving the evil eye (it seems to be the only expression that they have.)
And then yesterday…the haze and the sun setting over the Old Football Field and the set up for the Dia De San Pedro carnival.
Here are a few instagram shots from around town this week…
The first time I’ve EVER seen these things in San Pedro!
Buying 1/2 price expired items isn’t always such a home run. One of these olive oils (expired June 1, 2015) was a bit on the rancid side.
Habaneros – pretty but oh so hot.
A fun piece of art my friends brought me from Mexico.
A house across from The Office bar.
And a pretty pictures on the side wall of a mechanics shop in town.
Have an excellent weekend.
