Mystery Fruits in Belize
I stumbled upon this seriously rare fruit in Island Supermarket just yesterday and had to buy two even though I think they were $4 or $5bzd each. (I couldn’t bear to look). California Peaches.
You hardly ever see these in Belize. And when you do, they are pretty much rotten or totally mealy…I guess peaches don’t ship well. But these are delicious. Unbruised, perfumey and juicy. I’m going back for more.
I hate to break it to you. But when you move to Belize, it’s not red meat or Twinkies or White Castle that you miss most, it is: peaches, plums, cherries, yummy seedless oranges, Hass avocados, strawberries, blueberries…all berries. OH and lemons.
But the fruit selection here is limited but good. And if you can eat bananas, pineapple, papaya and watermelon every single day…you will be in heaven.
