It Rained On San Pedro, Belize’s St. George’s Caye Day Parade
September 10th is a national holiday in Belize that commemorates the British Baymen beating back the Spanish in very early Belize history. The Battle of St. George’s Caye. In San Pedro, Belize, to celebrate, the kids in town put on their uniforms (even though it’s a day off) and march in a parade.
Here are some pictures from the parade earlier today. The kids were supposed to gather at 9am. I arrived at about 9:20am and things were just getting together.
The big flag in Central Park was hanging a bit limp in the pre-stormy weather. Perfect weather for a mosquito parade.
At about 10am, the Miss San Pedro float was still parked and empty.
I settled in at Caribbean Connections internet cafe on the porch with a nice cappucino. And to wait. My favorite taxi parked for a minute. Does he think this attracts clients?
About an hour and 45 minutes late, THE PARADE!
No celebration is complete without some HUGE speakers.
Last year’s Miss San Pedro (closer) and our new queen.
Then San Pedro Roman Catholic school and its officers. It is a HUGE school.
And the High School. I still can’t believe that these kids and their parents can keep these white uniforms white. The girls’ classes are distinguished by their different color ties. Not sure how the boys are differentiated.
Kids upon kids upon kids. Have a great holiday and peace out…Rain schmain, parades are always good times.
