Maybe a Bit Late…San Pedro’s Independence Jump-Up 2015 Parade is One of my Favorites, Part One
September 21st’s parade (Belize’s 34th birthday) was considered a rain-out on Ambergris Caye. Postponed. Belize City cancelled theirs. Some happened in the rain…the BIG ONE Orange Walk postponed until later that day.
But San Pedro…for the first time ever…postponed until the following weekend. And added on some additional entertainment.
I was a little worried – about the weather…about the turnout…but there was NOTHING TO WORRY ABOUT! San Pedro rocks. And though insanely HOT, it was so much fun. I took 357 photos, that I whittled down to about 110. I’m just going to show you a whole bunch. Bottom line: SO MUCH EXCITEMENT and SO MUCH ENERGY.
The Gilharry bus was parked by Central Park and this man wanted to pose for me. They hail from Corozal, have a full set of horns and are hugely popular.
Beautiful, mostly breeze-less day. The sargasso, at least in town, had been cleaned and washed away by the week’s heavy rains.
The line up for the parade was at 10am…all along this beach front…here are the pics:
Miss Garifuna.
And her body guard.
The bedazzled cups! The bedazzled everything! Blue lipstick…totally awesome.
So many pictures…but I don’t care! I can’t decide. AND…the parade hasn’t even started yet.
The Mystic Mas Group…
DJ Debbie and her crew celebrating the life of her cousin Mish Spain – who passed away this year.
ABC Pre-School is AMAZING each and every year. 2015 was the year of Mickey…
A mother daughter team!
And then the parade actually started! And the energy…right until the bitter HOT end…
And the crowds…and the kids…
TOO CUTE. And so much fun…
More to come. I’m still re-hydrating. The people who participated, who decorated, who DJed and bedazzled late into the night – YOU ARE AMAZING. What a fantastic belated Jump-Up Parade.
