It’s like my blog is stuck on Replay, the needle’s skipping…yesterday was a gorgeous day on Ambergris Caye. I gush…I KNOW! But it’s really been spectacular. And a perfect one to trot up to the Palapa Bar to check out a bit of construction work they are doing.
I started at the Coastal Xpress (the water taxi that brings you north from town)/Amigos Del Mar (the dive shop) dock and headed north…
With a quick stop at the very next dock…the gas station has COLD sodas and my favorite ginger cookies (made in Sri Lanka, EXTRA spicy.)
What’s the view like from your gas station?
A bit farther north…beautiful breeze…sail boats were out. Sigh…
And up to Palapa.
Out on the HUGE back deck where the construction of a second level is taking place.
A thatched roof circular bar area…very reminiscent of the old spot. And…look at the view!
And below…I love this new seating area along the dock.
Thatch was coming in hot…
And lots of the old, autographed boards from the old locale.
I left my mark…quite a few times…
Said hi to Abner the bartender and wandered north.
I can’t wait to see the finished product.
So, how’s business at the “old” Palapa bar? 😉
It’s called Tiki Maya (which seems like they put random bar related or Belize related words in a bag and picked) and it seems pretty dead. It looks pretty beat too. But these are only my opinions. I just found a tavern name generator site and it gave me: The Lovely Manatee. I actually like that better!
I like that name better too. May karma strike Tiki Maya right where it counts. 😉
do you need an intern? I would love to follow you around and learn how to have as much fun as you do.
Ha. It’s quite easy to learn…I do need an UNPAID intern. BAD!
Where is the palapa bar? I asked the taxi and they brought me to the tiki bar
At the north end of town…across from the Sandbar. You might have to ask for the “old wet willy’s” for a while. Names tend to stick here.
Ok thank you! Is there another place we should check out?
