There are always lots of changes on Ambergris Caye but during the slow season, especially after Hurricane Earl, there is quite a bit of renovation going on. Here are some pictures from yesterday to show how things are moving…and then also, how many things, like the view, don’t change much at all.
I’m going to move from south to north.
I stopped into Ramon’s Village. They lost their dock during Hurricane Earl and are starting to rebuild the sea wall. The dock is probably next.
It’s still one of the prettiest beaches on the island.
First, the SANCAS building is almost finished…it’s just MASSIVE for San Pedro and you see it as soon as you step outside the Tropic Air terminal.
I hear there will be a real estate company (SanCas/Christie’s), a LARGE gym and a shared office space – a “rent-a-business-space” which, I think, is a great idea.
I then stopped on Front Street to get a look at the view…the breeze had picked up considerably since the morning.
Morning…
Afternoon. The view from the Spindrift Hotel.
A closer look and you can see changes. The old Tacklebox Bar has re-opened as “Island Tackle”.
Just north, they are putting a second story on the dock. Beautiful day.
Downstairs and just a block away is Hostel la Vista – and it has been undergoing some huge changes. It is JUST south of Jaguar’s Night Club. Currently without the jaguar’s face.
And looks right over Central Park.
Don’t let the wonky horizon make you sea sick.
Next down, I stopped at Fido’s. They haven’t started work on their dock either. But it does look strangely beautiful.
Across the street, the little boutique has closed and moved around the corner to a HUGE new space.
It’s now PINK! A chain in San Ignacio, Belize City and now San Pedro.
Wow. The building continues to build upwards.
I stopped at my Back Street fruit stand and got a “fruit bouquet”.
And then a quick drive by the Palapa Bar rebuild.
And then before the bridge north, the OLD building that first housed DJ’s Burgers (now closed) is being torn down. This was a VERY good idea.
And over the bridge, less than 1/2 a mile. A new resort? Tres Cocos Resort at the Cloisters. The Cloisters are a condo-community. I’ll need some more information on this.
SO there it is. Today’s another beauty on Ambergris Caye. See you soon.
…keep up the good work, Rebecca.
hhhmmmmm?
You have such a great narrative, camera, and eye, I wish your blogs were docu’s. Thanx!
you are certainly correct about the narrative…and the eye…..but…. Rebecca…i believe… needs a higher res. camera.

tres cocos start/ed/s, at the north property line, where big mikes house, [or who ever owns it now] is.. and the empty lot across the street… north of bob’s cloisters.

OSCAR’s GYM….[DJ’s burgers]..
i bet some foreigner, will build an ugly overpriced, who-knows-what….asap.
