Question Answered: Where is the Mahogany Bay Beach Club?

Early in the week, I wrote about the opening of what will be the largest resort on Ambergris Caye.  The full name is Mahogany Bay Resort & Beach Club, Curio Collection by Hilton.  A mouthful, I know.

The enormous Great House at MBV

They have built and continue to build a whole village there – a “townlet” it is called, with almost everything on site.  A pool, restaurants, scuba shop, golf cart rental, farmers’ marketplace and more…

There will be parks and more pools.  Homes.

But where is the Beach Club?   The townlet is set on a lagoon and there are canals made for boat traffic but I wanted to step foot on this spot where Sports Illustrated’s Swimsuit Issue was just shooting.

Last Friday, a GORGEOUS day, I was invited to the Mahogany Bay Beach Club.  I met a visiting couple and the head of sales at MBV.

Here is an image from Google Earth of San Pedro town and the surrounding area.

You can see the reef on the right running along the island and then I labeled The Bridge, San Pedrito, Cayo Espanto, MBVillage (you can see many of the canals in the area) and the Beach Club.  Hopefully this provides some clarity.  For those who know the area, Secret Beach is a few miles north (up) from the beach club.

You can see the scope of the entire project in the sales office.  There is a model.

The club is about 15 minutes away via boat.  The resort plans to have a boat (to start) that holds up to 27 people that will head back and forth each half hour between the village and the beach club.

We headed out…

I love the west side of Ambergris Caye.  The most popular and visited spot on this side of the caye is Secret Beach.  There is a beautiful exclusive private island called Cayo Espanto…we passed it on our way to the beach club.

We pulled up to the dock.

To say that it is a gorgeous stunning property doesn’t do it justice.  I’ll just show you lots of pictures – maybe too many – but I couldn’t STOP during my 30 minute visit.

A white sandy cove.

And then a large building – with two beach bars…

The view from the upper deck…

They own the land to the north as well – the next cove, not currently used. The only way to reach the area is by boat – there is no road.

And I could look at this view forever.

So that’s that – the scoop.  The location and some pictures of the newest beach club on the island.
