Finding New Things on Ambergris Caye including a 1963 Unimog For Sale

The upcoming month of May will mark my 11 year anniversary living full-time on Ambergris Caye.  For those who forgot the big 10 – the tin or aluminum anniversary – no problem.

11th Anniversary: Traditional Gift Ideas and More. Steel – which represents strength — is the traditional materials of the eleventh anniversary. Diamond jewelry is a modern addition.

Ambergris Caye is interesting in that instead of seeming smaller and more manageable the more I live here, it seems like the island grows.  My first 6 or 7 years were spent in the town proper and just south of it.  I then branched out to North Ambergris Caye…and now live 7 miles north of town.    I also spend a bunch of my time on the leeward side of the island at Cayo Frances Farm & Fly – in an area that I didn’t even know existed when I first moved here.

Here is an AMAZING screen shot from the Bote Board video made just recently about the camp.  You can also enter to win an awesome trip down here with all sorts of cool stuff.

But this gives you a small sense of the scope of this island.  The camp is in the bottom center…

Ambergris Caye is over 25 miles long and a few miles wide in spots.  There is a surprising amount of uncharted territory for such a popular place.  (Check out the crazy wildlife experiences we’ve had – from deer to an anteater)

Earlier this week, my friend Bill brought me to a new spot – new to me – less than a mile from San Pedro town.  Along the airstrip to the end on the lagoon side and a sand spit with a small building, some cabanas and this…

Here’s what I saw.

1963 Mercedes Unimog 404

I thought it was so super cool and so super odd to find on this island that I posted her on Instagram.  And the owner found me and let me know she is for sale.

Let me know if you are interested.

I also found this bar – being hand-formed in cement – overlooking the water.

And that’s all I have to say about that…

Let me know if you need to contact information for the Mercedes…or my address for the diamonds.
