One of my favorite stretches on Ambergris Caye lies around the 5 miles North marker. Encompassing the areas called “Mata Grande” and “Bella Vista”, I’m going to start calling it the “Jade Coast”.
There was not much gold or silver in the area but the Maya made gorgeous pieces of jewelry and ceremonial carvings out of deep green jade. (Have you seen the Jade Head of Altun Ha? The largest piece of carved jade of the Mayan world and the “Crown Jewel of Belize”? It’s breathtaking.)
This strip of large residential homes and low density, low level resorts is Ambergris Caye’s version of the “North Shore” (Chicago) or “Gold Coast” (Australia). The Jade Coast (as just coined by me) reaches up to the Portofino Resort and the gorgeous Canary Cove area.
Earlier this week, I stayed two nights at a fabulous BRAND NEW HOME at the south end of the Jade Coast. Called Third Coast Belize – it was shiny new. White and beautiful with a perfect pool in front.
I’ll start with my photos of the home – there are LOTS more on their website. And then show you a bit of the neighborhood.
A game room…
The rental also comes with the fanciest golf cart I’ve ever driven. 3 bedroom – 2 masters and a bunk room. But beautiful…way more than your average kids’ bunk.
Now a few pictures I took on a morning walk north from Third Coast Belize. It’s the ideal area for vacation (my family recently stayed just a few lots up)…
You can walk to Rojo Beach Bar or gorgeous MataChica for meals or just drinks. Mata Grande Store – the cutest grocery on the island – is a short walk up the beach.
All the spider lilies blooming on the beach are just gorgeous.
You can stop in for a drink at their beach bar.
We turned around at beautiful Mata Chica.
