YOLO Takes You To the Crystal Clear Blue Waters of Ambergris Caye

The entire Caribbean – Florida Keys, Yucatan, Mexico, Caribbean islands and the whole Belize coast – is having a tough year for sargasso.  The seaweed has been coming in…some say from the north and the Sargasso Sea, some say from the south and the Amazon area…since mid-February.

And while it ebbs and flows and resorts are doing a fantastic job, in general, to clean up the beaches, it can be a situation.  I wrote this post a few months ago – The Sargasso is Here:  How You Can Escape Its Grasp – but I wanted to elaborate on one option.  Because I went on Island Dreams’ tour – The Chill Cruise – a few days ago.  And if you love snorkeling, sunning, fun, great cocktails (or fresh fruit spritzers with lots of lime), really REALLY good food, a very smooth ride and endless aqua blue, sandy bottomed swimming?

This is the day trip for you.  YOLO!

The day started with a briefing and then…out to sea.

The perfect day.  Throw in 5 tour guides/bartenders and a captain, great music, lots of lounging space and you’ve got something here…

This is not a pre-mixed rum punch tour.  These guys are busy the entire time making margaritas (with or without salt), pina coladas and all sorts of custom-YOLO favorites.

Or…try a rum & coke or Belikin beer.  Lots of ice.  And that is HUGE.  Because you are absolutely going to want to stay hydrated.

We stopped first at Hol Chan Marine Reserve…and four groups went out to snorkel.  Additionally, one first time snorkeler went with her own guide and the captain helped a non swimmer view some fish under the boat.

A large crew is a HUGE bonus for getting special treatment.

Breakfast sandwiches and fruit were served.  Drinks refreshed.  We motored over to the famous and always, every-single-time exciting Shark Ray Alley.

Jacks, blue tang and nurse sharks darting around…JUMP IN!

Really REALLY great HOT corn rice, jerk chicken and ribs…

The bar is open right at the end of the boat.

Endless blue and a small fishermen’s shack.

Over 2 hours in this awesome spot…drinking, laughing, swimming, floating, a huge volley ball game and then…the trip home ended with music and a Wobble line.  Crew and visitors.  Good times.

I think the pictures say it all!

For ALL the information on YOLO cruises – evening, to Caye Caulker (I love cruising thru the split on this boat), this one – check out their website.  And check out the many trips I’ve taken with them below.  There have been some crazy good times.

And just in case you were wondering – the …dictionary says that Y.O.L.O. “You only live one” is from the 1960s but isn’t more specific than that.  It was brought back HUGE by the rapper Drake in 2011 and then used ad nauseum by Khloe Kardashian on the ever addicting “Kardashians”.

Here, whatever Hollywood.com is, tracks it back to the 1700s…

If you like it, you can stick a PIN in it for later.

What a GREAT way to see the water around Ambergris Caye #Belize. Snorkel...cocktail...and just float on the endless blue...
