Christmas in Belize: December on Ambergris Caye

“It just doesn’t feel like Christmas without cold weather” – says everyone who is NOT in the Caribbean for the holidays.

I don’t know about you…but I certainly that I don’t need wet, frozen socks or a 45 minute search for a parking spot at the jam-packed mall or a runny nose to get in the holiday mood.

Quick question – are there still malls in the US or is it all just Amazon these days?

Nevermind…

Just trust me when I tell you that Christmas is just as important to everyone down here at a balmy 80 degrees as it is to you up in Calgary (current temperature 29 degrees F)

It’s just a little less hectic frenzy.

To prove it, here’s what’s happening over the next few weeks as we lead up to the holidays.  And a look at some of the decorations around town that are already starting to go up.

Note about availability:  Christmas week, this year Saturday Dec 22 to Tuesday Jan 1 is the busiest time of the year for restaurants and hotels.  But if you want a last minute, “get a little color and some rum-punch” before the holidays get-away…the weeks leading up to Christmas are PERFECT.

There are actually lots of availabilities.  And air fares are looking pretty good.

The Annual Christmas Tree Lighting in Central Park – December 1st, 6pm

I challenge you NOT to be giddy around a steel drum band.  Impossible.

Lighted Holiday Boat Parade – December 8

The usual route is — Boca Del Rio from around Wayo’s Bar south to about Caribbean Villas and Crazy Canuck’s and back up to Boca Del Rio.  Bars and restaurants along the. water in town.

So fun.  Here’s last year’s small but awesome parade.

Dec 9 – Truck Stop Christmas Tree Lighting

Here are some photos from last year and the blog:  Every Who Down in Who-Ville Was at Ambergris Caye’s Truck Stop Last Night

Dec 15, Sunday, 2-4pm at the Truck Stop:  Holiday Craft Fair and Cookie Bake-Off!

Think your cookies are the best?  Enter to join!  Plus…crafts!

The 2nd Annual Ugly Christmas Sweater Party at Crazy Canuck’s Bar, Saturday Dec 15 at 7pm

Sunday, Dec 16th, LoveFM Lighted ROAD Parade

This event has become such a big deal over the years – this is the Eighth Annual San Pedro Parade.  Hosted by national radio station LoveFM.

Lights, music, dancers and hundreds of kids in their holiday best lining the route…catching candy thrown by most of the floats.

Super fun times – here is the 2017 Parade.

And then there are the lights around town.  Just rent a golf cart and ride around – in shorts and flip flops and enjoy.  It may  be my very favorite part.
