Lily’s Treasure Chest in Downtown San Pedro Belize: Best Fried Fish Ever

Lily’s Treasure Chest located on the beach in downtown San Pedro Belize has the best friend fish I’ve ever tasted.  And the view?  It’s not bad either.

But let me back up a bit…

Some of you might know that I wrote a book earlier this year – one that is coming in softcover in the next few weeks.  It’s available in EBook now.  50 BIG Experiences on Ambergris Caye.  It’s a compilation of all of my favorite recommendations for friends and family…small experiences for the most part that make you fall in love with this island.

Trust me when I say:  you will know when the soft cover goes live.  I’ll be shouting from the rooftops.  And looking for suggestions for book #2…maybe.

The section on Eating is BIG.  Because San Pedro has some of the best food I know.  From $3bzd chicken dip to more expensive meals at resorts.  One of my very favorites is fried fish at Lily’s Treasure Chest.

Yesterday, Jeff and I were in town and HOT…moving quickly towards hot and cranky.  So we decided to take a time out, headed to Lily’s on the beach and sit down for lunch.

No need to look at the menu.  2 icy soda waters, a fresh lime juice and an order of fry fish fillet and french fries (some might call it fish and chips) to share.  We also got some chips and salsa in case we were still peckish.

We sipped our drinks and enjoyed the view.

And then the food.  THE FOOD!

And then an action shot of the flaky moist flavorful crispy fish…it’s SO GOOD every single time.  You think MEH fried fish…but this is special.

And the portion is HUGE.  We didn’t NEED the chips and salsa…but the salsa was delicious and tart and super fresh.  A warm-up for conch season – Lily’s does my favorite conch ceviche on the island.

CONCH SEASON IN BELIZE STARTS OCTOBER 1st!  (Here’s a post about some of my other faves using my favorite crustacean)

We finished up.  I need to return SOON since I got these tips from a local and an insider:  “We love their fish fingers and their happy hour. Sangria pitchers are so good their breakfast and chicken burritos are amazing too. two people can eat from one order”

A few pics as I headed south.  JUST next door they were doing a bit of renovation on these rental units…how GOOD does this hammock look.

It’s the pied-a-terre of my dreams.  Take a look at the link.  SUCH a reasonable price for such a beautiful spot in this killer location.
