Just north of the bridge, in what can only be called a shack, is some REALLY great and unique BBQ. Let me tell you about it.
And I’m going to make it quick. I started a longer blog this morning…but we just got a call that our dog, who spent the night at the San Pedro Animal Hospital, isn’t doing well. And that’s all I can say about that right now. (No…it’s not too private, it’s just way too overwhelming to even think about)
Almost every day I post a picture on my Instagram stories – the view from the bridge as we leave town and head home.
To me, it’s the most beautiful view in the world.
Once you get over the bridge – at the very bottom as you take to the road – there is a shack. That advertises with a sign and sometimes…if you are very lucky…an amazing smoky scent…
Slow down around 1pm and there will be something delicious cooking. The chef is from Jamaica and then Miami and New York and is now in Belize. And he BBQs…and makes rice and beans…but everything has a Jamaican twist and the results are DELICIOUS.
The BBQ sauce has some ginger and maybe a bit of heat…and the rice is brown with spice and some hidden HEAT. And the tender ribs and chicken have been marinated with habaneros…that much is clear.
This food is GOOD. The sides are potato or pasta salad – that have a lot going on. I need to ask for the secret ingredients. And a pile of sliced candified plantains. It’s all really good.
Here are my pictures. Get there yourself and let me know what you think.
Oh…and the owner, who told me his name is Dan Marino (I didn’t get the reference – that’s how much I know about football) is a self-proclaimed American football fanatic. So…if that is your thing too? You guys will have lots of talk about while your plates are being readied.
Make sure you try the ribs – it’s a big portion and they are really really tasty.
