Thursday Morning, Late February in San Pedro Belize

This morning I headed to town early to drop off Jeff at the boat.  He is heading to Cayo Frances Farm and Fly to host a full camp.  I’m heading to Placencia tomorrow for the weekend.  To meet my brother and his family.

The last time they were here was 2018!  And we had fun on Ambergris Caye and on Caye Caulker,  You can read about our Perfect Day Trip to Caye Caulker on the most gorgeous day

Or the beautiful afternoon we spent at the camp and on a sandbar on the west side of Ambergris Caye.

But before I head to Placencia, I took some pictures.  Because it’s such a pretty morning.  February is just about perfection on the island.  Breezy…temps in the high 70s, low 80s.

Jeff’s boat on Back-A-Back Street loaded to go.

And along the street that runs parallel to the lagoon…

It’s one of my favorite areas of town – docks and boats for working fishermen and tour guides.

When you are a conch fisherman, you have many many conch shells.  Conch season runs from October 1st to June 30th.

I keep looking for my boat with the best name ever.  I saw it a few weeks ago at the gas station…

Usain Boat.  Classic!

Usain Boat

Back to this morning…

As I was headed back home…I passed the gas station…

…and found that the road in front of the Hol Chan Marine offices was blocked off.   Hol Chan Marine Reserve is in charge of the large marine reserves around our island – the most visited in the entire country.

Lots of chairs and awnings, tents and awards set up.  Even my friend DJ Debbie playing some “smooth jazz”…

The media was showing up (my invite probably got lost in the mail 😉 ) – lots of them.  The Prime Minister was expected…there were TV crews and Coast guard officers with guns…

I asked one of the Hol Chan guys what was going on.  And I was told it was a “rebranding” – Hol Chan got a new logo.

A…new logo.  I hope there is more than that announced – this looked like an expensive event.  I’ll have to look at the online paper later today.  Celebrating enforcement of laws…or betterment of the environment…that I can see.  But a new logo?  Everyone had new uniforms and I noticed that boats were repainted.  Surely there is more going on…

Let’s all stay tuned.

I followed the detour and I HAD to stop and say a quick hello to the green iguanas.

If you haven’t stopped by Calvin’s Green Iguana Sanctuary, you must!  Here’s my post about the details and a map so you can find it.

The sign as you swing around the corner…

It was the perfect time – about mid-morning – when the iguanas are still eating before they make their way up to the mangrove tops to soak up the sun.

This cutie.

Well…more handsome than cute.

I love all the signs and the wood carvings…

Have a great Thursday – I will be posting from my trip.  To Placencia – on a snorkel trip to the Silk Cayes – on a Monkey River Tour – I’m excited.
