Photos from my Week: Late March 2023

This morning, the “Easter Winds” are blowing.   We tend to have some of the highest (non-storm) winds of the year in March and April.  Not continuously but they can rear right up.

I took so many snapshots this week – sharing some on my Facebook page and many on my Instagram – but I realized that I didn’t share you with the rest of you.

So here’s a bit about my week.  It started at Cayo Frances Farm & Fly (check out Jeff’s new website – he did such an amazing job with the copy and the photos)…

Fran is always excited to get to “her camp”.

Ginger, the camp dog, is a bit more “low-energy”.

There was a beautiful sunset…

And then we had a bit of a late-season “cold front” move in – you could see the strip of clouds moving in from the north.  And…RAIN!  Not the ideal vacation weather (though less than a day) but the cisterns of San Pedro breathed a collective sigh of relief.

And the next day, the dark clouds lingered and lit up the sea.

The dogs got a lift across Cayo Frances later that day…

The next day, I finally got an answer to help ID the two types of pineapples we see most frequently on the island.  The first is the conical shaped, prickly type.  They are the most common and can be ripe even when they are green.  So I think smell is the way to go…

The look like this and they are called locally “Sugar Lo” or Sugar loaf.  They are delicious.

The second type is the “Hawaiian” pineapple.  They are rounder, more barrel shaped and smoother (less prickly) – they turn golden when ripe and they are so sweet.  With a note for coconut.  We always look for these beauties.  If you want to make a gorgeous centerpiece – how pretty would a tropical fruit wedding theme be – these are your pineapples!

Speaking of pineapple – Two-5, Belikin’s craft brew brand, is finally selling some of their flavors in bottles.  I spotted the Pale Ale and the Valencia orange IPA at Caye Mart.  They are $7.95bzd each.

For more on the beer, the flavors and where you can get it on top, check out their website.  And BELIKIN!  YOU GOTTA WORK ON THIS MERCH!

And lastly, pictures from Friday in town.  The skies and the ocean were sparkling and after I took a look at some of the Art in the Park – an event organized by the San Pedro Town Council – I wandered around…

Lovely painting by San Pedrano Papo of the old market in Belize City.

The best beach bags and…wouldn’t they make great Easter baskets?  This vendor is stationed full-time at the San Pedro Artisan Market (a fun visit!) if you want to check them out.

I was feeling artsy so I headed into Fido’s Palapa…

And the historical paintings…see the old Palapa Bar (now Rum Dog Bar) and then Turtleman’s House that used to be just north of Tranquility Bay?  (You can see both in this blog post from 2013)

I’d better wrap this up…I took a few more photos on the beach and in town and then it was home.  Phew!  One might think all I do is take pictures!
