Golden Bay Store Opens in San Pedro
A few months ago, a new sign went up just north of the bridge on Ambergris Caye. The former 777 Grocery Store had closed, and it was now GOLDEN BAY. Yesterday was the Grand Opening and…I had to attend.
There is a HUGE Golden Bay Store in Belize City – one of the largest buildings in Belize (is my guess). Multiple floors and huge. It contains a store, a hotel, and a restaurant. I have never been.
The hotel and restaurant look really nice on the website. The Suites are…wow. I’d call the design Cinderella-Rococco-I-Can’t-Belive-This-Furniture-is-In-Belize. (Click through to see them all but I snagged one picture from their site)
The store in San Pedro has just one floor, though one of the staff has indicated that more is coming. It is located at the entrance to the San Mateo neighborhood, just north of the bridge. Here are some photos I took. The place was packed! The road was filled with golf carts.
I would compare it to the old A&R in San Pedro, but with lots of Made in China souvenirs with BELIZE printed on them. It is almost a wholesaler for t-shirts (they have TONS), tchotchkes, mugs, shot glasses, etc. A bit like a Dollar Store? It’s a real mixed bag.

There are lots of employees too – super helpful and nice.
And then….some items I’d categorize as “Very Odd”.
There are homewares – a bunch of small appliances by the brand Brentwood.
Here are the things that interested me. I do love decorations, ribbons and gift wrapping materials.
Greeting cards.
There is a cafe counter. I will return when it’s not so crowded for some dumplings.
MOST interesting to me – the huge selection of Chinese/Taiwanese ingredients. Tons of sauces, noodles, dried products…ginger chews, teas…all sorts of things.
So that’s a look inside Golden Bay – the newest shopping emporium in San Pedro. You can check out their website and go see it. Let me know what you think. I ALWAYS want to know.
AND I’m TOTALLY going to stay in a Suite (if I can afford it) the next time I’m in Belize City. I’ll report back!

I would hope that they have a HUGE section of Marie Sharp’s hot sauces.
My pantry is chock full of them.
Also, did Mango’s ever reopen?
Marie Sharps is really PRODUCING. Feels like they are introducing new flavors all the time. Mangos is not going to re-open – the owner/chef moved to Florida with her kids 🙁
We recently stayed one night at the Golden Bay Hotel in Belize City. One of the cleanest hotels we have ever experianced. The rooms were very nice and the rooftop restaurant was outstanding. The outdoor part of the restaurant was beautiful and offered great views of the ocean and the city. We will always stay there when it’s necessary for us to be in Belize City.
We also visited their store. The inventory looks identical to your pictures. Again a very clean organized place. I think this will be a nice addition to San Pedro.
I’m excited to stay at the hotel. I just went to Belize City a few days ago and I was so hot and dusty, I just went home without completeing half my errands! A nice cool clean hotel to take a break would be AMAZING.
