This is a list of the many JUNE 2024 events and activities around Ambergris Caye. But before I dive into the calender, let’s start with the big picture. What is Belize like in June?

Belize Weather in June:

June temperatures are quite warm on the cayes but even warmer inland. 2024 has been incredibly dry in Belize—even in the south, which usually sees the rains starting in April and May.

June 1st is the official start of the Hurricane Season in the Caribbean, though it is still early. Some rain is expected in June, usually in the night or early morning, but you can see pass-over showers in the Northern Caye. Don’t worry – there will be PLENTY of sun. Pack LOTS of high SPF sunblock and a can or two of bug spray or lotion for the early mornings and evenings. (I recommend this brand because it’s not greasy, don’t stink and REALLY works)

The end of the dry season in Belize (and the beginning of summer in the US/Canada) means fewer travelers than the High Season (end of December to April) and, in spots, less expensive prices on accommodations and tours.

As this is the beginning of the lower season/shoulder season, please double-check the events on the host’s Facebook page or website to ensure they are happening!

Avg June Temperature on Ambergris Caye: mid-80s F with high humidity). Temperatures are relatively stable day and night. Add 5-10 degrees for mainland Belize.

The “Easter winds” – the high ocean winds of March & April – start to die down, making it perfect for diving, snorkeling, and flyfishing. (For the most reliable forecasts, I use Windfinder.com. Good for a few days out…not weeks!)

Big Events, Holidays, and Festivals in June 2024

Hopkins Mango Festival Street Party, June 8th: The streets of Hopkins Belize are covered in mangos this time of year, and this party is SO fun. (You can see my last trip down there for all things mangos)

Dia de San Pedro: This three-day festival commemorates the island’s namesake and saint of fishermen, St. Peter and takes place the last weekend of the month. Here is a look at the events last year

Conch Season Ends, Officially June 30th But the season can be “called” when the quota for conch fishing is full. Often this happens at the end of May…or early June.

If you don’t know, conch is way more delicious and more distinctly Belizean than lobster. Try it on pizza, fried, in ceviche, or in fritters—all of it. It’s so tasty.

June 1st is the first official day of hurricane season. To keep up on the forecasts, I use these sites: National Hurricane Center and Tropical Tidbits.

And these are the names of the potential storms (a strange mix of formal names and super casual nicknames) – let’s hope we meet NONE of them.
