Beryl Over 100 Miles to Our North, Effects To Start Today: Ambergris Caye Prepared For Some Rain & Wind
NEMO, Belize’s National Emergency Management Organization, issued its fifth advisory early this morning. Beryl is projected to make landfall south of Tulum, in the Punta Allen area as a Category One late today and into the night/early morning.
As projected, we are very lucky…and grateful! We’ll get some weather but not the brunt of the storm.
Stores and businesses on the island will be closing at NOON today so that everyone can be at home for the storm and it’s (hopefully minimal) effects.

Here is an excerpt of Advisory 5 for Hurricane Beryl:
“Although a direct landfall on Belize is unlikely, this system is likely to produce moderate to heavy rainfall across Belize starting today and continuing through the next 24 to 36 hours as it moves across the Yucatan Peninsula of Mexico. Rainfall totals of 4 to 6 inches are possible with locally higher amounts especially over the northern districts. This may lead to flooding over low-lying and flood prone areas given that soils in the area are already saturated.
Gusty winds to tropical storm force are possible in the extreme north of the country as the system makes landfall later tonight into Friday morning. Strong thunderstorms accompanied by gusty winds and squally conditions are also possible in feeder bands over other areas of the country. Sea conditions are expected to become rough with large battering waves especially over the northern offshore areas and operators of small crafts are advised to seek and remain in safe harbour.” You can see the FULL advisory on their Facebook page here.
Here is the project path for the EYE as of this morning’s forecast and it’s distance from us on Ambergris Caye.

Yesterday – the preparation entered the last stages. Boarding up…the water taxi was unloading packages and equipment off their dock to put in storage.
And fear not – the army of big junky oversized trucks that clog up our roads are safe and sound! Ugh.

And the tide, for the last few days, has been veeery low.

Stay safe everyone. Some wind and rain are expected. But otherwise…if all goes as planned, we should be prepared and safe on Ambergris Caye.

I like that site…very visual which is nice! Tulum…ugh. Really scary.
Whew! Such a relief Rebecca! I was getting more than a little worried about you guys. Stay safe!
The best relief for us. Now to wrangle with another 4 months of hurricane season!
Yea ventusky is simple no spaghetti strings. Ventusky has it all sea-wave action that’s a big deal wind speed gusts precipitation. The satellite view is pretty cool. All real time so you can see what’s happening right now.
If you click on San Pedro Town a box pops up, then click San Pedro Town again a weather forecast pops up. They have some web cams too.
Another good site is The Daily Mail. They have a lot of pictures. The home page is ok but you have to search easier to just type into google hurricane Beryl and the Dail Mail pages on that will pop up. https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-13594561/Incredible-pictures-Hurricane-Beryls-destruction-Caribbean.html
Looks like the waves off San Pedro Town are going to calm right down by noon.
Have yourself a Belikin and relax a little.
