San Pedro, Belize avoids the Storm: Beryl Making Landfall 150+ Miles to Our North
Phew. A collective sigh of relief in Belize. The green ALL CLEAR flags are officiially flying in Belize.
Hurricane Beryl…who is making all sorts of records for intensity at this EARLY time of year…swerved to our north as the week progressed. And looks to be making landfall between Tulum and Cozumel – over 150 miles to our north. We all worry and pray for our Yucatan neighbors in that area.
The worst weather that I experienced over the last 24 hours was some high wind gusts in the late afternoon yesterday. Maybe up to 40mph? But the night went quite easily…hardly any wind or rain though the sea did wash up quite a bit.
We can see no damage at all in our neighborhood and I’m not hearing of any on the island. Tropic Air will resume flights for 10am this morning. Maya Island Air has been operating on its normal schedule.
This most shocking thing at 8 miles north is the wave of MOSQUITOS that are out right now. INTENSE. Even on the beach. I know I seem like shill for this company but I really can’t recommend their lotions and sprays enough. (I have the QUART sized one making its way down from Amazon right now)
If you are heading north, be prepared!
Check with the San Pedro Town Council and with the National Emergency Response Organization for updates and, hopefully tonight, we will be back to our regularly scheduled Lobster Festivities!

Prayers for everyone!
Thanks for the update. Thankful for no serious damage. Our good friends who brought us to Belize 20 years ago had a wild night in Cozumel. A terrifying experience. Their rental house survived the Cat 3 wind…barely.
Onward. Enjoy Lobsterfest!
It shifted up very quickly! Super scary…just the one wind band yesterday made me extremely nervous. I hope everyone is ok.
😮💨
Winds from the west always push the male mosquito out front, and only the females bite. 🙏🏻
We all certainly miss a large cat 3 bullet 🥴
Glad we prepared for the worst, and are crateful ☺️
These are definitely the biting ones – I might need Benadryl…I got bites all over my back (and I thought I sprayed up!)
So glad all is well there and that Beryl didn’t bother too much with Belize! Of course, I also have friends in the Yucatan, both in the Playa del Carmen area and up on the gulf coast north of Merida, so I still have people to worry about.
OH I know…hoping only the most minor damage!
Hello there. Mosquitos check this out.
Walt Disney used liquid garlic. From Readers Digest.

Doesn’t harm plants animals and you. Amazon has it.
Tom
It says mosquitos dont like the smell but either do humans! Interesting….
Disney made it so humas can’t smell it but mosquitos can’t stand it. Amazon has it. Amazing what garlic can do.
Hope you got my Honda generator comment. That little generator works well. The little engine that could.
Yup you went through a hair raising event Beryl.
Take a nite off I think a Bilikin is appropriate
So glad y’all are ok!
I sent an email about a guided fly fishing trip at the end of the month.
I know you have a lot going on !
I am so digging your book.
