An Early September Walk in San Pedro
San Pedro is gearing up for Independence celebrations. If you haven’t seen the calendar of events on Ambergris Caye, check out this post. Some businesses will be closing for the holidays but there will be plenty going on.
And if you haven’t entered my giveaway for 2 Nights at Hidden Valley Wilderness Lodge (for 2), make sure you do.
Yesterday I paused my errand-rush-around to take some photos around town. Here’s what I saw.
The weather is warm and steamy. Classic September.
A closer look at Saul’s Cigar House decorated for the month. (Here’s a look inside)
I looped around to Front Street to check out the decorations.
My friend Dan’s cart ready for the holiday month.
Jaguar’s Night Club – which has been the center of town for years…well before I arrived in 2006 – has been torn down. There hasn’t been any info on what is to come…just that the structure was in bad shape.
And now.
I had to step behind the wall!
You can see the jaguar head up front…against the wall.
The metal circular staircase held up surprisingly well!
And into the dj booth…cds on the floor!
For those of you who don’t know about CDs or compact disks (about .00001% of my readership), CDs were introduced in 1982 and “heralded as the first commercially available prerecorded digital audio format. In 1988 CD sales surpassed vinyl LPs, and by 1989 they outsold prerecorded music cassette tapes for the first time ever — thus becoming the most popular audio format. CD sales continued to grow until they peaked in 2002.”
In 2003 CD sales began to decline (with the advent of the iPod in 2001) and have been rapidly falling ever since…
I had a sweet CD player in my 1995 Geo Prizm.
Thanks Retromanufacturing for that…it’s an interesting article!
Onward!
I stopped at Lavish Habit – a bit more about this great spot owned by the cutest couple. They serve the best coffee on the island and I love love love love the Pumpkin Spice Latte with cool whipped cream on top. Real feel 115 outside? I don’t care!
And then Jeff met me and we shared a Chicken Pesto Panini. The perfect snack or lunch.
Enough lollygagging around town. We have Sunbrella cushions to pick up at Sew What! The business has moved to Middle Street – in the yellow building where the San Pedro Post Office Resides and…I’m SO happy with our special order fabric choice. Giddy in fact. (More about Sew What! – they make beautiful things: Starting Small and Growing a Business on Ambergris Caye)
With the colors up at Rocky Point Permit Camp – I’m so happy with how they look.
And a quick look at the great mural behind our golf cart before we took off…
I hope you guys are all having a great first week of September. Thanks for reading!

Hi! I see the Minnesota dentists when they are on the island. (But not here right now) There is also Dr Lara here in San Pedro – but only been to see him for a consultation. Good luck!
julio lara…in the new ambergris hopes hospital.
Hey, I hear CD’s are making a comeback!
