Sept 10th Parade Marches Thru A Sizzling San Pedro

Yesterday was the first official national holiday of September in Belize. Celebrating The Battle of St George’s Caye of 1798 – when the British Baymen and their slaves took on the Spanish fleet. And won.

Each year, San Pedro puts on a Uniform Parade through the streets of San Pedro – the school kids, the government officials and the drum corps. This parade seemed a bit smaller than past years but it was still fantastic…and got me fully in the September Red, White and Blue spirit.

There is a GREAT anthem about it. “This is Belize…the land of the gods…”

This may have been my 14th or 15th September 10th parade and two things remain constant: I am ALWAYS caught off guard by how by HOT it is. These marchers are amazing – especially those in hot uniforms and those dancing! Just watching, I usually give myself a low level heat stroke.

And…I am always early. Always. Kids were asked to line up at Central Park at 9am. The parade kicked off at about 10:50am.

But enough about me. Let’s get to the photos.

I also caught the parade again nearing the end. Kids were starting to melt down a bit in the heat…but not all of them!

Thank you thank you thank you to everyone who organized and participated – we are all so grateful.

There is a busy 10 days coming up – leading into September 21st. Independence Day!

I love the ’10 September’ anthem. Such a catchy, joyous and celebratory song. I’m gonna have that tune in my head for the rest of the day! I bet it really gets people ‘Dancing in the Streets’ (yes, that’s a nod to Martha and the Vandellas).

Thanks for the video of the marching drum corp dancers. They are great and have so such energy! I wish you had videos in more of your blogs. hint, hint…

Final thought: Miss San Pedro in her sweltering robe. C’mon, that’s no way to treat a Queen!

EXACTLY. I’m still singing it like a crazy person in public. Got caught at A&R yesterday singing to myself. Check out Lord Rhaburn’s Born Deh also. SO GOOD
