November 2024: Daily Events Calendar on Ambergris Caye

This is a list of the many NOVEMBER 2024 events and activities around Ambergris Caye. But before I dive into the calendar, let’s start with the big picture questions.

In November, what is the weather like in Belize? What big events – festivals and parties – are happening in November?

After two VERY quiet months on the island, tourism starts to pick up in November…though slowly. The first few weeks of November (until Thanksgiving, really) can be slow. Make sure to check with venues before hand – to insure that events are still happening!

It is the last month of the Tropical Storm season – and though storms are less likely than in September and October because things are starting to cool off – November can still be stormy. We can see rainy days…especially during the first half of the month. US Thanksgiving, in my mind, is the official opening of Tourism Season.

While not a Belizean holiday, many restaurants and businesses celebrate Thanksgiving. “Turkey Dinna” is a very popular holiday meal in Belize – it has most of the fixings you are used to (stuffing, mashed potatoes, and gravy) plus rice and beans. Of course! (If you are new to Belizean cuisine, you are in for a TREAT. Here is my overview on Belizean Food.

We do have one (very unique) national holiday in November — Garifuna Settlement Day. It celebrates the arrival of the Garifuna people on the shores of Belize in 1802. The Garifuna culture is especially prominent in Southern Belize – in towns like Dangriga and Punta Gorda where they celebrate in a big and really beautiful way. But there are ways to celebrate in San Pedro.

November is a month that you can enjoy both Lobster and Conch. I LOVE CONCH. It’s sweet and delicious and very traditionally San Pedro. You MUST try conch ceviche, fried conch (or conch fingers) and the Truck Stop makes an amazing garlicky Conch Pizza. Definitely recommend.

The official dates: Lobster Season is July 1st to Feb 28th. Conch Season is October 1st to June 1st (though it has been known to close early – May or early June – when quotas are filled)

And LASTLY, since we are at the tail end of the rainier season, there may be some lingering showers and perhaps some mosquitos. Fear not, this Mosquito Repellent is my best purchase/find of the past 10 years. Spray or lotion, it lasts forever, is not sticky or smelly and WORKS. (As I copy this link, Amazon says that I have ordered this item 24 times…see! I really use it!)

Now…let’s get to the November events.

November 10, Sunday

North Ambergris Caye Clean-Up organized by Seaduced by Belize and Elito Arceo: in conjunction with San Pedro town council and Minister Andre Perez, invites all tour guides, cart rentals ,hotels and rentals properties , Tour operators, real estate agents and companies, BTIA,BHA and the general public to a massive clean-up campaign on November 10 Sunday to clean the northern beach of Ambergris Caye . We meet up at the bridge at 7 o’clock. We then drive up north of the island and we start our cleaning from El Norte bar and we proceed from there to as far as we can go for the day . Water, sodas and food will be provided to all participants. Garbage bags will also be provided as well. You can contact Elito thru his Facebook page.

November 19, Tuesday, Garifuna Settlement Day (National Holiday in Belize)

Garifuna Settlement Day is a National Holiday in Belize but restaurants and stores will be open. Schools and Banks will not. The BEST way to celebrate this holiday and eat amazing food and sample a bit of Garifuna Culture in San Pedro is to visit Black and White Garifuna Cultural Center just south of San Pedro town. Make SURE to eat some delicious conch sere. Here’s the scoop on this very very cool spot.

Everything will be open as usual since it is not an official holiday in Belize but many resturants have special menus. So you can snorkel in the day and feast in the evening. Here are some of the menus I’ve seen around town:
