Slow Moving Tropical Storm Sara brings Torrential RAIN

Last night, we got rain—hard, heavy, torrential rains, and Sara is still 24-36 hours away. (I am writing this at 745 a.m. on Saturday morning.) All of the Belize coast is under a Tropical Storm Warning as Sara approaches.

Our yard is now flooded (again) – higher than it was a few weeks back. The island was just drying out again but the low lying land (and we have plenty of it!) was saturated.

We are also experiencing King Tides – full moon (last night), seasonal, especially high tides and well…we’ve got WATER. Across the roads, in our yard and in certain spots, in our house.

Overnight, it looks like Sara is bringing shocking rains to Northern Honduras – almost 3 FEET in La Ceiba, Honduras (where you catch the ferry to Roatan) as of yesterday evening.

Here are some morning pictures from our neighborhood – high tide is still 3 hours away.

The beach at Xtan Ha this morning – the water is coming up over the beach
Dock at Xtan Ha was built very low – and is being washed over by some waves this morning

The storm is not expected to strengthen but we are expecting LOTS and LOTS more rain.

Heavy Rains for Sara
From Weather.com – we are in Yellow or Orange. LOTS OF RAIN.

Here is the most recent advisory from our NEMO group. Check there for the latest advisories and information.

NEMO advisory

It’s silly to say “Stay Dry everyone” but I’ll say it.

The rain is coming at us sideways right now…we are hunkering down for the weekend.

Yipes! Sure hope the water doesn’t rise much more. Thinking of you and my other friends in Belize. Stay safe!

Such a bummer. If Frannie could talk, she would speak for all of you. “I have had enough of this!” Stay safe and dry.
P.S. We know people who will be arriving in San Pedro in two weeks. Suppose roads and low lying areas will be dried out by then? 😉

    Hey Scoop.
Ventusky as of now. Sara. Seems to be not so bad with wind and wave action but rain. It’s going to come down. If you know people in San Ignacio, tell them batten down the hatches because the water is coming around 4pm Sunday.
Make sure to take of your furry friend’s with treats for storm otherwise they will go pirate on you. Eye patches Jolly Roger and everything. Got to keep the crew happy.
Where is deadbeat the feral cat?
    Tom

Stop burning fossil fuels, help the ocean stop heating and feeding intensity of storms.

We stayed at Tuto, a fabulous property next to where these pics were taken and had meals on that dock that is now at water level, We all left on Thursday at the urging of our awesome host George. Our plan was to go to Caye Caulker for another week but we hightailed it back to Canada to be safe. You live in such a paradise but, you’re right, it’s all very close to water level. The road was really messy before this rain. I’m sure it’s destroyed now. Please all be safe. You have a slice of heaven there. 🙏🙏

We are SO lucky to have George as a neighbor and his AMAZING property! The road to town is…doable but not great…heading north is way worse! Glad you guys made it home safely. You’ll have to come back!
