The Most Gorgeous Weather After BIG Rains But Is the Rain Really Over?

Just about 10 days ago, I wrote a post about the rain…about how I might need to build an ark on Ambergris Caye…or at the very least a small bridge to get from our yard, flooded with knee deep water to the street (the street which was only slightly less flooded).

I am VERY happy to report that since then we’ve seen week long stretch of the most gorgeous November weather. Our yard has just dried up this morning…leaving a nice patch of mud. The weather is slightly cooler, the air, slightly crisper* and sun sun sun. (* Crisp air in Belize means humidity below 85%)

a pretty day at Tranquility Bay Resort
Tranquilty Bay Resort, about 14 miles north, Ambergris Caye

This is the “rainy season” – weather is generally hot, low wind, low sargassum and beautiful until…for a few days in a row (maybe even 4 or 5), it is NOT.

I’ve been a bit down this past week, and MAN…this weather has met the occasion. There’s nothing like a beach walk with your dogs and watching them swim to make anyone feel better. Here are some of my pictures from last week.

One note: There is another weather system on our maps…

From NHC this morning. (And yes, you would be justified if you exclaimed “Are you f-ing kidding me!” I certainly did)

You can watch the forecast models (pick REGION: Western Atlantic) – looks like we are going to get some rain again. But it is still quite a few days away.

For now, I revel in this gorgeous weather. (Here’s the weather forecasting site I use…good, generally, for 2-3 days out)

Absolutely gorgeous skies…

And then I headed north later in the week…

And heading north some more…

Towards Rocky Point, the beach covered with dead coral
Frannie laying in the water

Pretty cotton candy seaweed onshore near Robles Point.

Pretty pink seaweed
Looks like Christmas decorations on the mossy coral

Sailors’ eyeballs – huge single cell algae – that rolled up on the beach (from marble size to golf cart size – filled with water)

Algae that looks like glass
Driftwood that i want to take…and then realize that it weighs many tons
A walk with the dogs
Belly, Biscuit and ornery Frannie almost getting along!
Just perfect at sunset

And just so you know it’s not all sunshine and glistening water, here are the boots I had to wear to get in and out of our flooded yard.

Trust me when I tell you that black rubber is not very comfortable in 80+ degree heat

Black rubber boots
Thank you for the boots Carol!

And BOTH of our golf carts broke down this week. One with a broken axle and…oy. The other with broken bearings and…oy. These roads!

Enjoy the great weather and keep an eye on the weather maps. Have a fantastic week.

Sorry to hear about the golf cart breakdowns and that you too are feeling a bit down this week. Wishing all a quick fix!

May the next storm miss Ambergris.

Wear flip flops & put the boots in the trunk. Socks help, too!

“… marble size to golf cart size …” Hope you don’t run into any golf CART size algae … LOL

Yeah, living in NOLA, on Gulf Coast, the “Are you fecking kidding me!?” sounds about right. Just not meant to have the stress levels at Code Orange thru

We are starting to move to Code Orange. Getting some plywood for the new camp windows today. In case!
