January 2025: Daily Events Calendar on Ambergris Caye

This is a list of the many JANUARY 2025 events and activities around Ambergris Caye. But before I dive into the calendar, let’s start with the big-picture questions.

In January, what is the weather like in Belize? What big events – festivals and parties – are happening in January?

The tourism season came in with a BANG for Christmas week. And we are now in full swing from January to…about Easter week. Easter this year is April 20th.

Weather: The rainy season (Aug – November) starts to taper off in December but we can have a smattering of grey/rainy days in the first week or two of January. Here is a helpful post about Rainy Season in Belize: What it means and What to Pack

Otherwise, you are going to get SUN and mild temperatures. Tempsare generally in the upper 70s to low-mid 80s.

I check the weather on Windfinder always knowing that this is the tropics and weather is quite changeable. So you can really only trust the forecast a day or two out.

Events in January:

There are two public holidays in January – Jan 1st is New Years Day and January 15th is George Price Day (the first Prime Minister in Belize). You’ll find that some smaller businesses are closed on these day but most are open. Booking tours, eating out, hanging out at bars…you’ll be fine. Going to the bank? Banks and schools will be closed.

January has always been a month for visiting musicians. The biggest name, for many years, was folk singer, Jerry Jeff Walker, who came down to San Pedro for 2 weeks each January/February for an event called “Camp Belize”. (Though I never heard of him until I moved to Belize, I went to his show one year and he – and his fans- was very impressive) JJW passed away in 2020.

His son is now performing with other artists. Camp Belize 2025 is SOLD OUT for the dates January 26-Feb 2nd. But if you are hear on the island, there will be lots of “pickin parties” – the schedule is usually announced as the event gets closer…

Another artist from Texas, Kelly McGuire usually heads to Belize in January but this year, his Belize birthday dates are a bit later…his shows start February 1st.

Seafood in January:

January is one of the months when you can enjoy both Lobster and Conch. I LOVE CONCH. It’s sweet and delicious and very traditionally San Pedro. You MUST try conch ceviche, fried conch (or conch fingers) and the Truck Stop makes an amazing garlicky Conch Pizza. Definitely recommend.

The official dates: Lobster Season is July 1st to Feb 28th. Conch Season is October 1st to June 1st (though it has been known to close early – May or early June – when quotas are filled)

• Carnaval in San Pedro: Saturday, Sunday, Monday and Fat Tuesday (March 1, 2, 3 and 4th)

January 1 2025, Wednesday – New Years Day

It IS a national holiday but many/most businesses like restaurants, hotels and bars and large supermarkets will be open. Banks are closed. School is out and some smaller family-run businesses will be closed for the holiday. If you are in town early enough (6-8am), you’ll see folks coming out of the all-night-NYs party at the Lions Den on Front Street. Ooof.
