San Pedro & Caye Caulker: Back in the Summer of 2013
Here we go – back into the old hard drive I found when cleaning out our cupboard. I posted a bunch of photos from the Spring of 2013 – it’s crazy how quickly this island has changed! So I thought I’d continue on. Photos of Ambergris Caye and Caye Caulker in the summer of 2013.

Saul’s Cigar and Coffee Shop was located a bit farther south down Middle Street – here’s the newer location. It’s a great spot to visit.
This great sign used to be outside.

The old Wayo’s Bar – same location but it was on land not over the water.

An old sign. I think Compadre’s shut down?

The church just south of town – by the gas station – was being built too. I think it’s a Mormon spot?

And then the beach just north of the old Banyan Bay…it was a beauty.

Let’s head north a bit…
The old AK’Bol Yoga Retreat.

Just south- looking down towards the Old Palapa Bar (now Rum Dog)

Then heading way farther north – to about 8 miles – and we DEFINITELY took a water taxi. The road, in summer 2013, was still a ROUGH go if there at all!
Xtan Ha Resort. It was a destination! We spent the entire afternoon…

Summer 2013 was also a TERRIFYING event for the entire island – a HUGE fire at Ramon’s Village. You can see some pictures here. August 27, 2013

That summer my friend was visiting and we sailed over to Caye Caulker at least 2x. (Something that I haven’t done in years but man, I love it)

And then walk down to the always changing split.

It was truly the time when EVERYONE on the island hung out at the split.

Here’s a look back over the years at the Split – I think the earliest picture is 2005. I need to get back to Caye Caulker immediately to update.
I really can’t believe the last time I was there was…November 2023. That’s just silly.
Time to get back to the present and head to town! I hope you all enjoyed those pictures and have a fabulous weekend.

Great pictures, was the best time in my opinion. You forgot Tackle Box and of course BC’s with the dog thing for Saga. Oh yea chicken drop.
Amazing changes Thanks for the memories
I think I have a few pics very similar buried in Google Photos 😉. Remember the little guy behind the bar at Hurricanes?… we called him ‘OO’ (double O). I’m trying to remember the name of the bar on Caye Caulker that a few locals played poker and smoked cigars at everyday. I think it had a fire and is gone.
No! I don’t remember him – i’d love to see those pics!
Great memories, thank you!
