April 2025: Daily Events Calendar on Ambergris Caye
This is a list of the many APRIL 2025 events and activities around Ambergris Caye. You can find this one and the most recent daily calendars on my homepage (so you don’t need to go searching…)
But before I dive into the calendar, let’s start with the big-picture questions.
If it is your first time on the island, see Your Guide to Ambergris Caye. AND The 13 Things I Think Every Visitor Should Do on Her First Trip

April is warm…and getting hotter. April is dry…there will be very little rain. April is still the “high season,” though things are starting to slow down a bit as spring officially springs in the US and Canada.
Easter falls in April this year and it is a very busy time on the island – when it seems like all of the folks from the mainland head out to the Cayes and sea front villages and towns for the long weekend.
Easter week, or “Semana Santa,” is a challenging week to accomplish any significant work. Schools are definitely closed and businesses? It’s like the week between Christmas and New Years at home…very little gets done!

Maybe Monday or Tuesday…but then things start to shut down and people are on vacation. The official holidays are Good Friday (no alcohol is sold), Holy Saturday, Easter Sunday, and Easter Monday. But expect transportation (especially the water taxis) to be PACKED on Wednesday and Thursday before the weekend.
Let’s talk about the hot weather…
Weather in April on Ambergris Caye
The rainy season really lingered this year. Usually we see the end of any rains in the first week of Janary and then we settle in for the DRY season. Without more than a drop or two of rain until May or June. But this year, we got rain into the last few weeks of February. Strange. BUT…the dry season is REALLY here now. Don’t be surprised if you don’t see one drop of rain in April. Sun, wind and more sun.
See this website for the best weather forecast I have found for this island.
What can affect the cayes in March and April are the “Easter Winds”. The wind can really pick up at times blowing steadily up to 25 or even 30 mph (again, see the weather site above). This can make the reef side of the island blustery – sometimes, sand will blow about.
But just travel over to the west side – the Secret Beach side of the island – and you’ll find beautiful calm seas.

I check the weather on Windfinder always knowing that this is the tropics and weather is quite changeable. So you can really only trust the forecast a day or two out.
Sargassum in April:
Sargassum is a yellowish-brown algae/seaweed that floats in big mats atop the ocean and has lots of positive benefits…until it reaches the shore. Asea, it’s a nursery for young sea life and turtles.
But…especially since 2015 in Belize…amounts have increased and huge piles of this stuff have washed up on shores around the Caribbean and Mexico and southern USA (and all over the world)

The influx in Belize – and the Yucatan Coast (from Cancun on down) has a very loose “season”. I think it’s the ocean currents…or the winds or the gulf stream flow…maybe all those things 🙂
Sargassum season, in my estimation, is LOOSELY mid-January to August based (based on my observations).
Last year (2024), it did not come in until the end of February – our beaches were mostly clear until then.
So far in 2025, we had some come in during the 3rd week in January…and then on and off periods. We had a bunch come in this first week of March and then, mid-March, it REALLY started coming in. 🙁
This seaweed affects ONLY the EAST or reef side of the island while the west side (and the Secret Beach area) stays seaweed-free.

If you are staying at a resort or a hotel, most staff work very hard to clean up the area…but it can still pile up.
Seafood in April:
Lobster is out of season in April. Lobster Season ended February 28th and will reopen on July 1st – the 2025 Lobster Festival takes place in the beginning of July with the big block party on July 12th.
But better than Caribbean lobster…Conch season is OPEN. The conch season in Belize ends June 30th. And reopens October 1st. Make SURE to eat conch when you are here in April. Ceviche, fried, delicious conch soup. It’s so tasty.
Before I get into April, here are some things coming up in May to watch out for:
- The Chocolate Festival in Southern Belize: May 16, 17 and 18th in and around Punta Gorda
- The National Agriculture and Trade Show (NATS) Committee under the auspices of the Ministry of Agriculture, Food Security and Enterprise hereby informs the general public that the National
- Agriculture and Trade Show 2025 will be held on May 30 and 31, and June 1, 2025, under the theme “Integrating Sustainable Food Systems: Mitigating Climate Change, Strengthening Agricultural Resilience” –> The Ag Show is the biggest hottest most interesting most…MOST event in Belize. There’s a rodeo, plants, animals, live music, you’ll see pretty much everyone in the country. All hotels in Belmopan are sold out. The buses to the countries capital are PACKED. Here’s the last time I went…I’d LOVE to go again but…I think I’d need to train for it – sooo hot…so crowded…2014 Part One and Part Two

Good Friday is a quiet solemn day in San Pedro. Many businesses are closed. Alcohol sales are prohibited (though sometimes restaurants or hotels serving full meals are exempt…it can be quiet confusing) Bar and nightclubs are closed. There will be a process by the RC Church as sun sets in town.
Local lore suggests that anyone who ventures into or on the water on Good Friday will transform into a merman or mermaid. Some boat companies/tour companies do not work on Good Friday. Make sure to check in advance.
