My Week in Pictures: First Week of March 2025

February went in a flash and March is here. In the US, we were taught (mostly so you could do school crafts that involved glue, yarn and cotton balls) that March goes in “like a Lion and out like a lamb”. Winter starts to soften…

But in Belize, March brings in hotter weather and the “Easter winds”. Winds can kick up sharply in March and April – causing choppier seas and sometimes, blowing sands. The best website for weather predictions, I find, is Windfinder.com. Today will be a breezy one.

Remember that breezy can trick you (and by you…I mean me…I got tricked earlier this week) – it feels cool but the sun is HOOOT. I’m LOVING this sunblock (when I remember to wear it) – not greasy, high SPF, doesn’t drip into my eyes, doesn’t stink like you were dipped in pina colada.

Here are some of my snapshots from this week. (Much of it spent in the golf cart!)

Wednesday afternoon – after Carnaval ended

Saturday: North Ambergris Alliance completed another trash pick-up on the road north – from El Pescador to the old Journeys End. Please follow for more information and the announcement of the next community effort.

Lobster seasons last day was February 28th. You can see some of the lobster traps and lobster shades stacked on the lagoon side of town.

The season will re-open July 1st – as will the San Pedro Lobster Festival. The big block party for 2025 will be July 12th. Here’s a look at 2024’s block party.

I took a few pictures just as San Pedro Carnaval officially started. The town clock and the SAN PEDRO sign were wrapped in plastic…

The symbol of the excess of Carnaval – Don Juan Carnaval – was stored in the Ladies restroom. AHHHHH! What a creep!

He would be burned on Ash Wednesday to officially end the celebration.

Turtle nesting season is coming quick and we had a sign made with some of “the rules”

Other things around the camp way up north…

Beautiful colors on a palm leaf

We had a decent amount of sargassum come in this week – and trash…from Jamaica.

The life of a camp dog – Belly.

Napping…getting up for a swim to cool off…repeat.

Belly at the beach
Biscuit and Belly swimming

Frannie’s gotta get in on the napping action too.

Biscuit is a more active dog – she is amazing at smelling crabs while walking on the beach….and then she starts digging…

and then this…(I can’t stand watching videos but I’ve watched this next one about 40 times)

Sigh…

I saw this while driving up north – after a brief shower…turkey vultures drying their wings in the sun. OR end of times…

A few more pictures!

Picking up friends at Tranquility Bay Resort.

Looking north…
Coral is just incredible

And then a strangely beautiful jellyfish – man-o-war- washing up on the beach tangled in sargassum.

Pretty in motion too…

I hope you all have a great weekend…

Your blog has been a mental health retreat for me and my family lately. We’re visiting again this next week. Thanks for the photos and celebration of your country.

I wondered what a “Biscuit” hole was. Then I found out…

This was one of my favorite posts ever!

TIL your beloved Banana Boat, and >70% of all sunscreens, are loaded with nano and microplastics 😯. But about 25% are not. Search:

I’m not sure how we avoid nano plastics – from bottled water (which is the only thing we have here for drinking) to my diet cokes to canned foods to…

I’m sticking with the one that I’ll actually use – plastics or not!

…aww, c’mon – how can you resist trying beef tallow sunscreen? A company called, ‘Eat My Face’ makes it and says it’s edible! Their slogan? “If You Wouldn’t Eat It, Don’t Wear It”
        yummy 😋
