RRR Rescue Delivers Huge Shipment of Needed Medical Equipment to San Pedro and Caye Caulker
Yesterday, 2 huge trucks filled with medical equipment were unloaded at a very busy San Pedro Polyclinic – but that was only part of a larger delivery to Belize. And the payoff of a two-year petition for a grant that would provide much-needed equipment for the Project C.U.R.E. organization.
RRR Response– San Pedro’s volunteer emergency land-and-water response team – has done AMAZING work for this island. And it just keeps getting more impressive. You can read my older post: You’ve GOT to Know RRR for an overview.
Founded in 2017 after a horrible drowning on the west side of Ambergris Caye, the group has grown into something very powerful – a real “dream team” of homeowners on the island & San Pedro lovers and committed local residents and volunteers. These folks work so hard to make sure that a tragedy like that doesn’t happen again. They’ve developed a network on dive shops and boat owners to responsd to water emergencies and they have a fleet of ambulances and emergency vehicles for Ambergris Caye and, starting last year, Caye Caulker. They respond to 100s of calls a year.

Interesting aside: If you have been reading my blog for a LONG time, you might remember that Emerson was the winner of my FREE SKYDIVING GIVEAWAY way back in 2017 (the skydiving company left the island many years back). Here are the pics and…yes…I was giving it away because there was NOOOOO way I would jump out of a plane. He loved it!
You can read more about the organization (and how you can help) on the RRR website. But this arrival yesterday was a grant they worked hard to make happen. Meetings with Project C.U.R.E. in the US, assessments on location in Belize – where superstar San Pedrano Billy Leslie took the folks to the Polyclinic, our new Hope Hospital and to the Polyclinic in Caye Caulker.
Project CURE then returned to Belize to assess medical facilities in Dangriga and Belmopan (for potential further help on the mainland)
RRR and San Pedro/Caye Caulker were chosen for the very competitive grant – over $500,000US of equipment would come down to Belize. BUT…the container would cost about $50,000USD to get to Belize. Project CURE held a fundraiser in Denver to help raise that money and Traci Curtin, one of the founders of RRR Rescue, was the keynote speaker. She shared the story of Rickilee and the limitations that contributed to her death in 2017.
Please take a look at their website for all that they do. It’s nothing short of incredible.
Here are some photos from yesterday’s delivery. When I first arrived there were about 40 babies, mom and dads because Wednesdays are vaccination days at the clinic. The babies were dressed up for the outing…it was so cute to see. and I know ALL of this equipment will be SO appreciated.
Mayor Wally and a number of town councilors, as well as newly re-elected Area Representative Andre Perez were there to welcome the arrival and thank all those who made it happen.

To work! Lots of medical equipment but also things needed at a hospital – from filing cabinets to office chairs. You can see scales, wheel chairs and walkers, crutches of all sizes.

Pretty amazing.
Thank you so much for the years and years of hard work that pays off in such a big way on this island. I feel so much safer knowing you guys are on this island. And I always keep the emergency number close at hand.
