October 2025 on Ambergris Caye, Belize: Weather, Events and CONCH

September and October are the slowest months of the year for travel to Ambergris Caye and the rest of Belize. Kids are back in school, and everyone is getting back into the “summer’s over” groove. The weather in the US/Canada can be gorgeous. So tourism is quite slow.

It’s also still hurricane season and October is historically at or very near the peak month for tropical storms in Belize. This does NOT mean your vacation will be interrupted by a big storm. But the weather can be very hot and still or there are chances for rain. (September has very similar weather in general. And our September 2025 was mostly VERY hot and VERY DRY but we did have 4 days in a row of rainy weather)

All that being said! If you don’t mind some rain and want to experience a quieter, more local side of the island – October can be a gem. Especially if you plan on moving here and/or working here.

Ambergris Caye Weather in October

October is firmly rainy season in Belize. August to December is a time where it is a possibility. Expect hot, humid days with scattered downpours, sometimes heavy, but usually short-lived. Mosquitoes tend to be more noticeable after rain showers, especially in the evening, so pack repellent.

Storm systems in the area can suck up all the wind in the Caribbean and leave the water FLAT. It’s called October Doldrums for a reason. (See some pictures here from a past October) There are usually gorgeous clouds too…and perfect sunsets.

The Atlantic hurricane season officially runs until November 30th, but October is the month to keep an eye on the forecast if you’re traveling to Belize. Thankfully, most storms pass without issue (the last storm we saw on the island was Category One Hurricane Earl) – but travel insurance is always a good idea.

Average temps: high-80s°F during the day – though the read feel can be well into the low 100s, mid-70s°F (24°C) at night. I like to check Weather-atlas.com this time of year. My thermomter says 85 degrees but it’ll feel 110. They’ll give you the details on this site about real feel temperatures.

Sargassum in October

October is always been part of the “lull” for sargassum in Belize especially compared to the spring and early summer invasions. But this year is different. It has slowed a bit in September but some days loads of it will come in. It’s September 29th as I type and it’s still coming it. UGH.

Every year is different, and ocean currents can change quickly – I’m hoping they shift soon! Resorts, residents and the SP Town Council continue daily efforts to clear what does arrive.

Seafood in October

October is a wonderful month for seafood. Lobster season is open until February, so you can still enjoy grilled lobster, lobster ceviche (it can be so sweet and delicious when done correctly!), and all the island classics. But forget lobster I say, because CONCH is what makes Belize special. And it is SO delicious.

Conch season begins in October 1st – a much-anticipated local favorite. Conch fritters, conch chowder, conch ceviche…you’ll see it popping up on menus as soon as the season officially opens. Here are some of my favorite ways and places to get conch.

Both lobster and conch are regulated with set seasons to protect the fishery, so October is one of the only months where you can feast on both at once.

Let’s bring out the Venn Diagram for all you (fellow) nerds!

Quick Travel Tips in October

  • Pack light rain gear: A small umbrella or light rain jacket is handy. Also, a sandal that you can wear in the rain (I’m devoted to the plastic Birkenstocks – if it starts to rain and you need to make a run for it…you won’t slip on wet tiles in these)
  • Check for hotel specials: Many resorts offer big discounts this time of year – I find it best to contact the hotel directly if you see something great out there
  • Bring bug spray: Rain + puddles = more mosquitoes (I’ve tried ALL bug sprays and lotions and far an away the best of the best of the best is Sawyers. And I’ve never seen it for sale on the island so bring with!)
  • Keep an eye on the weather: The National Hurricane Center. And for daily weather, Windfinder is the best I know.

Holidays & Special Events in October

October is not as packed with holidays as September, but there are some dates to know:

  • October 13th, Monday – Pan American Day: A public and bank holiday in Belize. Schools, banks, and government offices close, though most larger restaurants and tour operators remain open.
  • Halloween: San Pedro loves Halloween – and San Pedro throws some of the best parties (for adults and pets) in the country. Expect elaborate costumes and themed events at bars and restaurants. October 31st is a Friday so it works out nicely. I’ll share the parties here as I see them!

October might not have the parades and fireworks of Independence month, but Halloween in San Pedro is one of the biggest (and latest nightest 🙂 ) parties of the year.

Additional dates for fun:

Sunday, October 5th: Terror in Transylvania Murder Mystery Night (here’s the event information)

Full Moon Party at Moon Bar, October 7th, Tuesday

Croctoberfest: Sunday, October 12th at Croc’s Sunset Sports Bar

Halloween

The weekend before is the SUPER FUN SAGA Humane Society Fundraiser – dogs and kids and adults dressed up for the party and the competition. (Check out the 2024 party here)

Since I got back to the island… I’ve been looking forward to October! I love pumpkins, carving them, making pies, and frappes… I always buy them at Farm House. They sell giant ones. I bought a 22-pound one. It weighed so much, but my excitement outweighed it. I hope some restaurant or place has a pumpkin carving competition; everyone’s terrifying art would be incredible.🎃

Nice try on the Venn diagram – but I think that it’s backwards. The Lobster circle should be on the left on Conch circle on the right. Then the overlap of months works better.

Rebecca did great on the diagram. The location of the circles is irrelevant as long as they overlap correctly to represent the relationships between the sets. The succession of the five overlapping months is the same regardless of which animal is on the left or right.

Yes! That’s what I was thinking. Thanks for that 🙂

I’m not sure I understand…I don’t think you need to read Venn diagrams left to right – for chronological order. But maybe I’m looking at it wrong?
