A New Breakfast At Neri’s Tacos

In 2019, I published 50 Big Experiences On Ambergris Caye – a guide built around the things that make San Pedro special to me, the things that set it apart from other places. One very big part of that is food.

I sold a bunch of copies on Amazon…the pandemic was certainly a hiccup in that (to say the least)…and I’ve had some false starts in producing a second edition. The island’s changed so much in the past 5 or 6 years…

But I’m ready to get it done – this is my Second Edition Summer.

I’m going back to the source – doing every single one of them again with a notepad and camera in hand. Visiting the spots, eating the food, trying some new things, experiencing the island the way I’d tell anyone else to. And trying some suggestions I’ve received in the last few years…

Yesterday I hit #2. Neri’s Tacos. And tried something new to me – something suggested to me by about 75 comments. Try the Stuffed Fry Jacks!

Neri’s Tacos – in a new building since my book. This building also happens to be the former Minister’s house – Manuel Heredia

We had our first rains of the season in the last few days…so I stomped in with my muddy feet.

The window is always busy – Neri’s is an EXTREMELY popular breakfast spot

You can ask for a menu – it’s quite simple.

I usually order 6 pork tacos and a banana juice to go. But I was mixing things up. Stuff fry jack…ham and eggs please. I ordered at the window and went to have a seat.

The taco ladies are inside very very busy rolling tacos.

The tortilla and fry jack ladies are on the side of the building. The spot is run by two brothers…one took my order inside. One was on the side of the building cleaning a quarter pig…and tentatively asked him if I could take their photo together. Forearm deep in a pig and he agreed.

Enrique and Ruben. Thank you guys!

I saw this and took a photo…FoodMark…hmmm….

And the link brings you to a 2024 Instagram post that…I can’t even describe. I’ll just show it to you.

“Foodmarks are like landmarks but they’re not found on maps. They are imprinted on our hearts and taste buds…” Huh.

Okay…back to the food. My fry jack was ready in about 4 minutes.

Good lord that’s beautiful

And HUUUUGGEEEE.

Cold cold banana juice with lots of nutmeg is like heaven

So so so so so so good. And I couldn’t finish the whole thing.

When I go back – and bring Jeff – I’m going to order a fry jack and my usual taco order – and split it. YUM.

I might go right now…my mouth is watering.

If you haven’t been to Neri’s…get there immediately. It’s slightly tucked away…but you’ll see all the carts parked over there in the morning.

Thank me later 🙂

AND…if you have any suggestions for my next Editions…any at all…please please please let me know.

Every time we come to Belize, breakfast at Neri’s is first on the list of places to go eat. Absolutely the best food and best prices on the island.

Yummm… I can taste those pictures. I love Neri’s! And I miss San Pedro. I need to plan trip #6 soon. It has been way too long. Also, if you need a good editor to help out with book revisions who also loves San Pedro, please let me know (jodihughesedits.com). 😀
