Belize City, You are Beautiful in The Morning!

I am here in Belize City for a few reasons.  To get away from the island for a bit, to do a few activities (kayaking & horseback riding) and to see the beauty of notoriously rough Belize City from a local’s perspective.

My day has hardly started (in fact, I am back on my bed by now) but Belize City sure looks good at dawn.  A Carnival cruise ship has pulled into the harbour overnight, the boats are getting prepared…some to pick up tourists, some to go lobster fishing and lots of people are out jogging and exercising along the sea.

Everyone I passed said “Good morning” (that’s more than I can say for NYC)…this is a good start to my day.

I will bore you with a few of my pseudo-artsy sunrise shots of the working lighthouse (built in 1885) that stands right above the Baron Bliss Tomb (a large benefactor of Belize, though I hear he never set foot on Belizean soil).  In person, the lighthouse is really beautiful.

I ran into this cute lady who tells me that her ankles have been swelling due to “the diabetes”.  She walks and exercises each morning to try to keep them down.  If that doesn’t inspire me to get off my lazy ass, I don’t know what will.

This is a great start to my day…I can’t wait to see more.
