Fly Fishing Camp Life on Ambergris Caye

Things are slowing down on Ambergris Caye – the sun feels hotter, the air more humid and tourists are starting to wane.  I spent a few days at “the camp” this week – my home away from home.  We had a group of 6 visiting from Costa Rica – guys who do A LOT of fishing down there.  In rivers, in the Pacific and they were all blown away by the gorgeous flats of Ambergris Caye.  (Take a look at some of the trips – wicked!)

And while I STILL know little to nothing about fishing – you’d think I would have picked up SOMETHING during my 4 years hanging out at Cayo Frances…I do love…just hanging out.  And taking pictures of course.

Crazy cool camp stickers by Slackertide.  Who also did the cover of my book!  *Softcover version should be coming this week.

Here are my photos from Cayo Frances Farm & Fly this week.

The grass is usually green this time of year – but it’s been DRY!  Though we should be getting some rain early this week.

It’s been a tough season for planting flower seeds.  Even one flower is a victory with wishy willys and lack of rain and high salty winds.

My first globe amaranth in white.   (This plant is GREAT for this climate once it gets going and the cut flowers are beautiful)

Zinnia are a bit more fragile but worth it.

Marigold?  Iguanas LOVE the seedings.

Threatening clouds but not a drop of rain.

A past guest left this for me and I’m finally reading it.  I didn’t expect it to be THIS GOOD!

The deeper water channel that runs around the camp.

You can see it in this drone shot.  JUST to the left of the camp.

Elsie trying on some sun protection.

Frannie taking an unexpected swim after tumbling off the skiff.

She shook it right off and was back at the bow of the fast-moving boat 15 seconds later.

Frannie as soon as she gets home from the camp and into the air conditioning.  Tucks herself in for a long nap.  Being a camp dog isn’t easy.

And now to start our day.  The golf cart…is always giving trouble.  This time some sort of starter belt…oy.

Not to sounds like an old lady but…it’s always something!

I hope it’s fixed quickly and I hope you all have a great weekend.
