The Holiday Lights of San Pedro

Last night, San Pedro’s favorite weekly newspaper, The San Pedro Sun, hit the streets in a bedazzled golf cart cavalcade to find the very best holiday decorations.  No easy task.  There are so many beautifully lit houses, so many semi-hidden displays in back yards, on decks, in secret courtyards that this was an all night affair.Lots and lots of strong rum punch was consumed to insure the judging would go just right.  (The brew was loaded on the cart in a HUGE cooler, the kind that they dump on the coaches head after winning the Superbowl.  And was refilled before the night was over. The SP Sun even assigned a staff member to ensure no cup was ever empty.  Oh my.)

In Boca Del Rio, above Wayo’s Bar

The staff of San Pedro Sun and family took the three judges (SanPedroScoop was one of them!) on a very comprehensive tour.  We drove through town, all the way up to the bridge, back down on the beach side keeping our eyes peeled for an hidden gems.  We hit San Pedrito, San Pablo, Escalante and DFC.  No stone was left unturned.

My very official score card with the five categories.  My favorite is the Jan Jensen Memorial award for simple and sweet.

The decorated ride, the limousine of golf carts, and our view down Front Street.

Kids everywhere seemed to know we were coming.  Were our Xmas carols that loud?  A huge bag of candy was distributed.  A few golf carts joined our parade at different points.

A beauty in the Escalante neighborhood.

We all retired to BC’s Bar (that already had quite a crowd) to tally the votes.

Get out there and admire all of the lights.  And stayed tuned for San Pedro Sun’s FULL COLOR Christmas issue published this Thursday, December 22nd.  It will feature the winners, the amazing prizes and tons of really beautiful pictures of all the houses.  Use the issue to find all the winners and as a road map for your holiday tour of San Pedro.

For those of you that can’t get a hard copy (I love a real newspaper!), check them out at San Pedro Sun.
