Beautiful Belize Cookbook: A Great Way to Support the Island We LOVE

Support Ambergris Caye AND Learn How to Make Fry Jacks, Conch Fritter and Real Belize Rice and Beans!

Yesterday I headed into San Pedro Town for the first time in weeks.  It was the very first day that our State of Emergency measures had been loosening to include swimming in the sea and eating at open-air restaurants.

Here’s a photo I took going over the bridge.

My heart practically exploded with love for this community – as I saw everyone in masks (entire families – age 3 to elderly in handmade bandana coverings) doing their best to keep this community safe.

It’s not why I moved here at first…or at least I didn’t know it at the time but it’s what I LOVE most of all about Ambergris now.  The people and the sense of community.

It’s heartbreaking what Belize and to varying degrees, much of the world, is going through right now.  Ambergris Caye is HURTING from the shut down on the economy to prevent CoVid-19 from overwhelming our tiny medical system.

Our economy on the island is almost 100% tourism-driven.  And the tourist industry here and worldwide has just been decimated with no clear answer when that is going to turn around.  A year?   More?  It’s scary to think about at all…

There is no government safety net (to quote the Prime Minister…Belize is broke) and with so many out of work (closed hotels, restaurants, shops) – tour guides, servers, hotel front desk, fisherman…so many could use assistance.

Most of you know this…or can imagine.  So I’ll stop preaching to the choir and show you this BEAUTIFUL cookbook – that an island resident put together in under TWO WEEKS filled with recipes that SO MANY OF YOU will love.

Have you been fiddling around with sourdough baking and cereal pancakes (the WEIRD/stupid new Instgram trend)?

Well STOP IT!  Now you can make Belizean Black Soup or Stewed Beans or Coconut Bean Garnaches or even MY banana bread while you flip through over 100 GORGEOUS photos of Ambergris Caye.

Foods that will take you back to your last trip to Belize…recipes and photos to tide you over until you can get here.

AND ALL PROCEEDS GO TO MARESHA REID’S MASSIVE EFFORT (The San Pedro Hot Lunch Program) TO MAKE GREAT FOOD FOR THOSE WHO NEED IT.   (Read a bit about here)

There is a whole website – with the books – soft cover and hard – abouut the island…DEFINITELY take a look!

Here is the website to buy your copy.

And a HUGE shout to the publisher, writer and editor.

I haven’t mentioned it for a while but I also wrote a book, perhaps the same size as this…less pictures…maybe a few more words.  It took me 4 months.  And then after a full month of trying to format it myself, watching 101 YouTube videos, chatting on Self-publishing Facebook groups, I had to ask for help.

Getting this done in 2 weeks is A MIRACLE.

Here’s the link…
