Gorgeous Afternoon on North North Ambergris Caye: But the Rainy Season Has Definitely Started

Yesterday we woke up to grey drizzly skies. But I had to run up north – way up north – to drop off some supplies and, weather or no weather, we had to go.

Why the Rainy Season does not mean ALL RAIN (Not at all) in Belize

(If you’ve been reading my posts for the last few months – or longer – you might see that I am going far north more and more often. There’s a reason for that…and I’ll explain it soon I hope. But just not now…)

Here’s a more detailed look at the drive in May 2023.

But here are the photos from yesterday. The skies cleared as soon as we completed our bumpy, rugged, “this is surely where we are going to get a flat tire”, swarmed by mosquitos in the bush ride. And it was gorgeous.

Rocky Point and driftwood

Note: On the way back home we got DRENCHED. A huge thunder and lightning storm that was so pretty to watch…until the skies opened up.

Many of you are probably asking: WHERE IS THE SARGASSUM? And the answer is…it comes and goes. There are certain areas where it is better at times…and there are certain spots where it is worse. I was in this exact spot a few weeks ago and there was a bunch of sargassum.

But yesterday? Hooray! Gorgeous gorgeous beach.

And even better? I found this! Right on the beach…

Lots of conch shells…some with some dried sea grass attached.

Time to go…we left Jeff relaxing in a hammock.

And headed a few miles south to Tranquility Bay to grab some lunch.

We should have paid more attention to the clouds forming…but they just looked so pretty.

Fresh lobster just came in.

An hour later we were soaked thru. THAT’S the rainy season on Ambergris Caye. Mostly sun with a chance of torrential rain.

I know just how you feel, I got caught in the rain on my way into town yesterday morning from Secret Beach. I was a bit soggy for an hour or so and then dried out. I was lucky enough to get back to Secret Beach before the storm hit that you got caught in. Your right they don’t last long but they are strong.

Nice photos. I want to thank you for your article on Las Terrazas. We spent a week there last week…We are in Belize a lot & usually stay at Sunbreeze Hotel when on island. (nice staff & love the Blue Water Grill). But we were just there in March & are returning in late September, so we wanted someplace up North. I remember your review of Las Terrazas where you had a friend who was staying there….so I make the reservation. It was lovely…the staff was so friendly & the restaurant was great. We like small boutique-like hotels & this was perfect… We spend a lot of time just chillin by the pool or beach (sargassum was a problem last week)….so thanx again for the tip.

Hope you enjoyed RI….we haven’t been back since 2019 & only visit for weddings (or funerals)…..read your piece on your journey…it exhausted me!!!
