April 2024: Daily Events Calendar on Ambergris Caye
This is a list of the many April events and activities around the island on Ambergris Caye.
The Weather in April: April in Belize is quite warm and very dry. (There are many Aprils we don’t see one drop of rain on Ambergris Caye) The mainland feels some of the highest temperatures of the year in April, the cayes and beaches are generally kept cooler with what locals call “The Easter Winds”. (For the most reliable forecasts, I use Windfinder.com. Good for a few days out…not weeks!)
April is a great time to visit Belize.

April is the end of the “highest season” (Christmas to April). The weather is warm and lovely but more than that…winter is ending in the countries to our north (especially the USA and Canada) and spring is starting to…spring. Tourism starts to slow down going into the summer months.
Big Events, Holidays and Festivals in April: The big event for Belize in April is The Belize Agriculture and Trade Show (aka Agric) at the Belmopan Fairgrounds from April 26 to April 28th. It is the biggest gathering of Belizeans of the year. It is hot, dusty, crowded and AWESOME. I went in 2014 (time to get back) – here is Part One (THAT FERRIS WHEEL!) and Two (The animals and plants and the rodeo!
Easter came early this year – on the very last day of March but Easter Monday, April 1st is still a public holiday in Belize. (As well as one of my favorite days of the year for other reasons…)

April 1st, Monday
Today is Easter Monday. A public holiday in Belize but one where you’ll find most everything open on Ambergris Caye except the banks, government offices and the schools. Some smaller delis/restaurants maybe choose to close.
Most folks are returning to the mainland after a raucous Easter party weekend on the cayes. Expect the water taxis to be full/sold-out.

The first day of The 52nd Annual Belize’s Agriculture and Trade Show at the Fairgrounds in Belmopan, Belize. Hotels and lodging book up quick and at least a month in advance…and you are going to want a hotel. This event is HOT and dusty and huge and you’ll see 100 people you know…it’s pretty amazing. And exhausting. And amazing.
