Back in Belize! A Quick Update!

It’s been almost two weeks since I wrote my last post.  But just a while back, I got a message that there was an ambulance and a fire truck in front of my mom’s house in New Jersey and…

She is fine.  She fell and broke her wrist but I flew back to New Jersey – for the first time in three or four years – to help out with some things.  My mom is in a cast and on the mend.

For those wondering…New Jersey looks the same.  Beautiful and clean and green!  The weather was gorgeous – LOW HUMIDITY and in the 70s and low 80s.  Clothing stores and malls seem to be struggling…but there are now 24 hour Health Care Clinics springing up everywhere.

I drove a car for the first time in years.  Success.  I took Uber and asked so many silly questions, the drivers probably believe that I am a Martian.  All these new apps and delivery services really blow my mind.

I also watched the devastation a hurricane can have on an island – the northern Bahamas…it’s unbelievable, extremely unsettling and just heartbreaking.

It’s the time of year to keep our eyes on the National Hurricane Center’s updates.

I did things that I’ve needed to do for a while – eye glasses exam for example.  Eat bagels at truly astonishing pace.  (For anyone who thinks that frozen bagels are just fine…get to NJ and see the difference!)

And now I’m back home.  Just in time for September celebrations!

Yesterday at the International Airport.

I missed the pageant of Miss San Pedro.

I missed the pageant for Miss Universe Belize.

But tomorrow is the first official holiday of September.  September 10th marks the Celebration of the Battle of St. George’s Caye.

Tonight there is a parade called the Fire Engine Parade that says it’s starts at 6pm…I’d guess a bit later but it might be a fun night to have dinner in town.  Following that is Tribute to the Baymen in Central Park.

Tomorrow, late morning, is the Uniform Parade with all the kiddies fresh back to school.  I’ll see you there!  Here’s the 2018 parade for a preview.
