Belize Blue Is a WAY Better Color for 2020:
In early December 2019, Pantone, the experts in all things “color”, announced the 2020 Color of the Year. As advertised the color is “calming” and a “return to basics” but it is also decidedly MEH. Boring.
I’m not offended by this color…but I would NEVER call it inspiring or exciting. I would never rush out to buy something in this color or paint a room this…this…denim hue. Let’s just say that Pantone’s 2019 color was FAR better.
So why not declare a new color? One that I find very calming but also exciting and inspiring and beautiful…one we are surrounded by in Belize. BELIZE BLUE.
I tried to distill it down to one color – or even just a few. Using some snazzy websites to mix and match.
The Blue Hole. I don’t think they are seeing what I am seeing.
Better…a snapshot of Hol Chan Marine Reserve…but not perfect.
Here’s what I think Belize Blue is…and it’s not just the ocean. Blue is often said to be the most rare color in nature – but NOT IN BELIZE.
South Ambergris Caye on a day trip with YOLO.
A pretty restaurant on Caye Caulker.
A photo flying over the Split a few years ago.
And a picture at the Lazy Lizard Bar at ground level.
Pretty pretty blue flowers (plumbago) that I photograph every time I go to Las Terrazas Resort.
The coast line of Ambergris Caye from a parasail trip.
The reason why flying in Belize is so special….this view!
A blue heron posing next to some very blue chairs.
A pick up from a water taxi at our neighboring dock.
An insanely blue morpho butterfly at the largest butterfly farm in the world. (along with lots of creepy pupae and larvae and…ick)
And then the OTHER famous Blue Hole. The inland Blue Hole at Blue Hole National Park in Cayo on the Hummingbird Highway. An old picture but you can see the blue!
So I think you can see what I’m saying…forget Classic Blue – it’s a total bore – and embrace the new 2020 Color – one that is EVERYWHERE around us. BELIZE BLUE.
