Hotel Review: Changes in Latitudes Bed and Delicious Breakfast

I will admit it.  I have a very soft place in my heart for this bed and breakfast.  When I first visited in 2006 with a friend, we stayed with Cindy and Renita of Changes in Latitudes for a week.  And when I left, I wanted to return immediately.  In fact, as soon as I got back to NYC, I booked another solo trip returning just one month later.  Screw getting a job!  I wanted to go back to Belize.Five years later, the bed and breakfast is just as cute.  Located about a quarter mile south of town, you have probably seen the bright blue wall and the sign.  But have you looked inside?

Here is the entrance from the back side of the property.  Equally cute.

Behind the gates is a beautiful garden.  There is a little seating area where everyone hangs out at night to sip Belikins and recap their days activities.  Or on some nights, to eat BBQ.

Lots of seating…

You can always play a little bean bag Blue Hole (or drinking Blue Hole)…

Or just use the outside shower after snorkeling and dry off in a lounge chair.

There are free bikes so you can explore town and ride up north and lockers so that your diving and snorkel equipment can dry off.
There are three rooms on each side of the building (six in all) and a much larger suite with kitchen, patio and three sleeping areas on the second floor.

They are small but very cute.  Each room is decorated differently.  How much time are you going to spend in your room anyway?  It’s just the right size.

Let’s get to my favorite part.  Breakfast.  It’s different each day of the week…from Cinnamon Bread french toast with Butter Rum Syrup to classic Belizean dishes.  It all starts with juice, coffee or tea and fresh fruit.

My breakfast arrives…

Yummy toast with cut out holes.  Eggs in the holes, a bit of cheese, black beans.  And my favorite…the left over toast holes made into buttery buttery cinnamon toast circles.

And here is a quick look at the upstairs…all hardwoods with a living room, a full kitchen, two bedrooms and a sleeping loft.

I stayed at Changes in Latitudes 3 times before I moved down here permanently…and I moved in large part because Cindy and Renita convinced me that I could do it.

Both owners have been on the island for years and know the places to go and the people to contact.  There is even a daily board with all of the day and night time activities for you to choose from trips to the Mayan Ruins to live music at the local bars to poker matches to the best place for an ice cream cone.

It’s a great place to chat with fellow travellers over breakfast and just hang out in the court yard.  They have so many repeat customers…to many it’s their Belize home away from home.  So…if you are visiting San Pedro soon, check them out.  I promise you will like it.  Hey, I did.
