May 2024: Daily Events Calendar on Ambergris Caye

This is a list of the many MAY 2024 events and activities around Ambergris Caye. But before I dive into that long list, let’s start with the big picture. What is Belize like in May?

Belize Weather in May:

May temperatures are quite warm on the cayes but even more so, inland. Rain can start after months of dry dry dry, usually falling as light showers night/very early morning. The end of dry season in Belize (and the beginning of summer in the US/Canada) means fewer travelers than the High Season (end of December to April) and in spots, less expensive prices on accommodations and tours.

As this is the beginning of the lower season/shoulder season, please double check on event thru the host’s facebook page or website to double check they are happening!

Avg May Temperature on Ambergris Caye: 82F (but high humidity). Temperatures are relatively stable day and night. Add 5-10 degrees for mainland Belize

The “Easter winds” – the high ocean winds of March and April – start to die down, which can make it perfect for diving, snorkeling and flyfishing. (For the most reliable forecasts, I use Windfinder.com. Good for a few days out…not weeks!)

Big Events, Holidays and Festivals in May, 2024

May 1st is a National Holiday for Labour Day. Schools and banks will be closed as well as some smaller businesses.

The Crooked Tree Cashew Festival, May 11th and May 12th. When…oh when…do you have a chance to win a BULL. Is he allowed on the water taxi? Crooked Tree is a lovely little village and I LOVE cashews. Maybe I can make it this year. May 11-12, 2024.

Belize Chocolate/Cacao Festival in Punta Gorda, Belize, May 17 to 19th

I attended years ago and it was fantastic. I’d love to get back for this too! (Sigh…how I’d love to be sponsored by one of our local airlines…or even the water taxi) For more information, see their website.

May 1st, Wednesday

It’s Labour Day in Belize; May 1st is a national holiday. Schools, banks, government offices, and some small, family-owned businesses will be closed.
